Does it astound you that the two most brilliant scientific minds of the past 400 years believed in a Creator?
Depends on whom you talk about.

However, there is a difference between believing in god and postulate the earth is 6000 years old, and believe in god and stick to the scientific method.

You mean he pushed the old man from his place and took over? I wouldn't be amazed.

Believing in God is believing in God. I am talking about an intelligent Creator of the universe (and all that exists within.)

Let's not start mixing things up (you talk about the age of the Earth.) I've already said the Bible is not a science book, if for no other reason that there didn't even exist a suitable vocabulary to describe the concepts you would expect from a modern science book.

What Ian is saying is that he thinks Bob is a joker that is up to no good and likes to stir trouble in the forum. What's ad hominem about that claim as long as it is true?

Just another day in the week.

I think you are too obsessed with religion being a bad thing.
I don't THINK religion is a bad thing.... I KNOW it's a bad thing. Having a personal belief in God is one thing, but quoting and thumping the bible where ever you go.... well... you show me a person like that and I'll show you a person who's wound up pretty tight.

And with that I bid you a good night.... errr actually... good morning.

Ok, what I meant is I don't take a scientist serious who takes the bible word for word. I do NOT have a problem with a scientist who believes in a god, but doesn't let that interfere with his work.

I once nearly went on a ("science"-)teacher's throat because he answered "that's how god made them" when his students asked why an octopus changes its colors. Especially, after that mofo had taken it out of a no-take zone without permission.

Vocabulary? If there ain't one, then you can make it. Neither the Greek, or Egyptians, who had already a huge understanding of scientific concepts, nor the Arabs had problem with coming up with new names...

an intelligent Creator of the universe
Thinking that he also created Homo sapiens, I'm having my doubts about that intelligence

But doesn't it surprise you that the two most brilliant scientific minds of the last 400 years believed in a Creator? You said you were astounded that I could believe in such a thing earlier. It sounds like you believe the idea of a Creator is ilogical.

As for the Bible, there are very good reasons why it is not meant to be a source of scientific knowledge.

No, it might surprise me, but that doesn't mean that I think bad of them or their work.

    So Steven Hawkins and DaVinci?

Hawkins isn't a believer, i dunno about Da Vinci. My list of top two might be Darwin and Einstein, neither of which believed in God.

He asked for the two most brilliant minds. This is rather subjective.... and difficult to answer. Hawking and DaVinci are mine.

How the heck did I come up with Hawkins?

I think the thing most of you fail to understand in Bob's points is that he is talking in human perspective.

To us humans, 2 + 2 = 5, if we're taught so. Maybe the order of numbers in this hypothetical situation goes 1,2,4,5,3,6,7,8,9 instead of 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9. We would have no way to know. In that case, 2+2 = 5 would also be "universally" true.

The same goes to the cat: to us humans, it indeed has no definite color until it's observed. After that, we can say it was white all along.

Again, the same goes for the prisoner: to us humans, someone who has been convicted is a criminal, unless new evidence emerges and he's exonorated, regardless of the fact did he really commit the crime or not.

And to us humans a meteorite doesn't exist until it's observed. After it is, we can deduct that it did exist earlier too.

Finally, i'd like to link to Schrödinger's cat again, as the earlier link probably went unnoticed in the blurb of discussion. The interesting thing about this cat is that it is at the same time alive and dead, in a superposition, until we open the box it's in and observe.

Everything that does not fit the definition of "Natural". It's not a difficult concept to understand. Or, at least is shouldn't be.

Well in that case you should be able to tell us what it is!!

Already did. If you fail to understand (or rather, deliberately lie that you do not as it seems to me), that's not my problem.
