    Default LITE-ON 2X Blu-ray DVD Burner Model LH-2B1S

I am using Vegas Movie Studio 8.0 Platinum for editing. Will this burner be a decent solution to burn my editited home movies with without breaking the bank? I dont have a blue ray player yet but figure on buying one down the road.. This guy is about 350.00 on Newegg.. Will my Sony Movie studio support blueray?

I have the LG GGW-H20L burner. It works very well with lots of good reviews. Price goes below $300 now

As far as I know, you can't author blu-ray movies using VMS8.0. You'll most likely need the full version of Vegas or some other NLE.

Edit: Oh, and I agree with Lunchbox, that blu-ray burner would definitely be a better choice, and less money!

Oh that would suck if I had to buy the full version.. Movie studio does everything I need and its $400 less! I wonder if its more to do with Sony DVD Architect than Vegas Movie Studio.. I have 4.5 DVDA.

No, Vegas won't burn BD. You can use this instead though:

The above requires only a BD player, not a burner. It will save you $400.

Thanks for the tip. I am really starting to scratch my head and ask why as a home movie person if entering the HD world isnt a mistake.... I feel like I have a camera that has the ability to tape in HD but getting that picture onto a DVD that I can hand people to play it in thier blueray player is more of a challenge than I originally thought. Are most people just keeping the video on the mini-dv and playing it through the HMDI connection to thier HDTV? I suspect that is the case for many...

The HD players are not widespread yet. Therefore, software is not there yet. Therefore, if you want to "hand down BD disks" without any obstacles, problems, or other unforseen things, you will have to wait 2-3 more years. Until that day comes, use the method linked above, or use tapes or standard SD DVDs. It was the same when DVDs came out.

Yes, but the guy is already using Vegas Platinum for editing, and exporting twice to go from Vegas to Premiere in full HD can take ages. Additionally, buying Premiere or Nero costs quite some money, plus the burner.

I didn't think you could author a DVD with ANY version of Vegas. You can only output to a DVD-compliant MPG2 file, but the actual DVD authoring is done with DVD Architect, no?

Version 5 of DVDA will allow BD authoring, but it remains to be seen whether or not it will be sold as a standalone product or only included with Vegas Pro.

That is correct. People frequently refer to the entire Vegas+DVD suite as simply "Vegas". I'm guessing that's what was meant here.

DVDA hasn't been sold alone before but who knows what Sony will do in the future. It's all about marketing and $$$.

Stay tuned as DVD5 is due in a couple of months IIRC.

    Good luck.

Actually, it has. Version 4.5 is currently available standalone at Fry's Electronics here in L.A.

On their site I see DVDA Studio 4 but no DVDA Pro. Do they have different stuff in the stores?

    Good luck.

Often. I shop primarily at the Woodland Hills store on Canoga Ave. DVDA Pro is not sold separately, but they had a retail boxed ver. 4.5 of DVDA in the store when I was there last week. I still have yet to get an answer from Sony or anyone in here about what the specific differences are between the versions of DVDA that come with Vegas MSP and Pro.
