should I buy another camcorder

Ok, I am about to get a gs300 for my trip to Spain,but I really wanted a hv20 or hv30 but couldn't get it in time. I've looked into both camera's and tested both, and the hv20 felt like the better camera. But what do I know, since I am still a novice. I was wondering if I should get the hv20 or other similar minidv's, or is having just the gs300 fine when I get accessories? I want to use the film for artwork and movies. Those high prices create confusion in the quality for me.

HV is HDV, GS300 is DV. Gee, which one is better?

Technically, the HV20 is better in terms of resolution, frame rate options, etc. But at almost twice the price, the question really is do you value HD that much?

Plus, the 300 has some things going for it:

3CCDs could arguably produce better colours. And if you're using the auto mode alot, the DOF will be slimmer so it's easier to focus.

The focus ring also makes it easier to fiddle with manual focus. (This is the only thing I'm dissappointed with about the HV20/30. The focus wheel isn't sensitive enough and hard to manipulate while filming without excesive shake/noise).

The 300 is probably a bit smaller, also, and you won't have to worry so much about having it broken/stolen because of price point.

Having said all that, the HV20 is coming down in price right now but will ultimately hold its value longer, since it's HD and has achieved a kind of cult status.

The choice is yours.

Dont forget about editing. Alot of computers arent powerful enough to edit HDV.

I had the GS280 which is pretty much the GS300 minus DV in and it was the WORST thing Ive ever bought.

I felt so guilty selling it on to someone on eBay.
