Default Vegas movie studio platinum – problems – am I the only one?

    Hi All,

Due to many suggestions posted here I installed Vegas movie studio platinum. I’m having the hardest time capturing video and want to see if it’s just my setup.

1st of all get this annoying DLL error every time the application starts up, which leaves me to believe there’s something wrong from the get-go (see attached). I’m running Vista Ultimate edition.

My problem is really with the capture process. Although I’ve gotten this to work once or twice for the most part the player controls in the application seem to get stuck. So when I press play … nothing happens .. clicking stop then just depresses the stop button so that I now have play and stop depressed at the same time.

It almost seems like the comunication with the camera is hung up \ confused. I’m having similar problems with HVSplit where the controls don't seem to work correctly or the app just crashes. Windows Movie Maker seems to work just fine which is what really confuses me.

Looking at the device manager. The device shows up under “Sound, Video and Game Controlers” with the following driver information:
    Date: 6/21/2006
    Version: 6.0.6000.16386

Right now my "Certified for Windows Vista" experience seems like a load of B.S. Winodows tells me I have the latest drivers. Canan does not even have the drivers on their website … in fact the most usefult thing you can download under “Drivers and Downloads” is the HV20 Brochure.

Does anyone have any ideas on what I could do to debug this? I’ve tried rebooting etc.

    Thanks
    Warrick

What version of Vegas Movie Studio, and what happens if you start Vista in Safe Mode and launch the VMS?

VMS 8 is supposed to be Vista compatible...

    Version 7.0a (Build 52).

Dou! - how the heck did I miss the fact that there's version 8.

Thanks - I'll give that a go quickly and see if that helps.

There's also an update to 7e. Haven't tried Vista out yet, windows provides enough 'challenges' already

7e is for the full version of Vegas. And, alas, version 7 is not vista compatible. It will work, but you have to use a different SQL engine, which means a little faffing about before attempting to install.

The next version will be Vista Compatible, and 64 bit. Woohoo!

Sadly upgrading to version 8 does not look like it's fixed the problem. See screenshot attaced.

Let's make sure we are covering all the facts. Are you pressing the play button (on your cam or on the screen) or are you pressing the Capture button ?

Ah WOW, it does work in vesion 8. The problem was that I was at the end of the playable portion of the tape, so when pressing play it had nowhere to go. The controls DO now work .. including the rewind which of course gets you to a point where you can press play and see some action. I tried this in version 7 and it didn't work, but I was a little to quick to assume it was not working in version 8. Thanks for help guys, V8 seems to be good. A nice feature would be for the software to know you're at the end of the media, but even the camera does not seem to know this becaue if you're in play mode it does not stop when it gets to the end.

    Thanks
