This is an excellent forum and I'm glad I found it.

I've been debating between the HF-10 and the HV-30 for about a week... I've read and watched everything I could, and I've gone to my local Best Buy to get a hands on for both. After finding this forum I nailed my decision and went with the HV-30.

Price-wise, BB can not touch most online retailers. I have a manager friend that works for BB, and employee cost for the HV-30 is $719. The "Going out of Business" sale at Circuit City had the HV-30 priced at $630.99 + MA sales tax.

I found zipzoomfly selling new HV-30's on ebay for $549 w/ free shipping. I emailed the seller asking if the cam was a USA model with a Canon USA warranty. It took 3 days to receive the response "This model is intended for sale in the USA". Too vague of an answer for my liking. I walked away.

I've been to B&H and it's by far the most impressive photo/video toy store I've seen. You can loose your mind in there... and your credit cards catch fire as soon as you walk in Anyway, I decided to purchase my HV-30 from B&H. At $599 w/ free shipping it's not only a great deal but I have the peace of mind knowing I'm dealing with a quality company.

    Henry,

I just got my second order in two weeks from you guys and this one included a used/refurbished Canon EF S 55-250mm IS lens. Listed as used on your site, the link for info on it returned a "refurbished" notice.

Checks out just fine. I order frequently from B&H and you folks set the "gold standard" for integrity. Good to see you monitor this forum.

And what a surprise, IT IS!

(BTW, welcome to the forum, JCD. Might want to read the stickies at the top of this section before making a purchase decision.)

    JCD,
I found a JVC camera a month ago for a CRAZY low price.

Patience prevailed! I started checking it out and found out about the bait-and-switchers offering low low prices.

Check out ANY web-seller at the following site: http://www.resellerratings.com/

One good thing... through all my research I found the HV20 & HV30 and this site and am less than 2 months from ordering my HV20 or HV30. Which one I order depends on if the prices drop once the HV40 comes out allegedly on April 1.

Yeah dont buy those low price scams cuz i did with the panasonic dvx100b for $700 and never got the camera called the people and they said they needed my debit info which they should have already had when i put the order in on the web. And come to find out the stupid cam didnt even cam with the main ingredient to work....the lens> those things are major scams. Try B and H cuz they have superlow prices, I got my hv30 for $500 flat with no tax and free shipping. and they have a high reputation. Or try ebay.

How can you get the DVX without the lens is beyond me. Unless the camera is broken.

That just means that the slowed economy forced them to need more time to deplete the HV30 stock.

Well, not exactly; however I kind of question the "added value" of all the accessories they're throwing in: they're calling a 6-foot HDMI cable a "$119 value" and a 256MB miniSD card a "$69.95 value," yet only describing the wide-angle and telephoto adapters as a "$29.95 value." Now consider that you can pick up that same MiniSD card for $2.75 and that same 6-foot HDMI cable for $9.99 elsewhere on ebay and you might have a better idea for the "actual value" of the accessories they're bundling with the camera.

I'm planning on getting an HV30 pretty soon, like maybe tomorrow, but I'm still apprehensive about getting a good deal on it. I usually buy my stuff from sellers on pricegrabber...usually go for sellers with high ratings. I noticed that the floating price point for the hv30 is 599, so it pretty much comes down to picking someone trustworthy. It's pretty much between amazon and bh now. Is there any reason I should pick one over the other? or is there a better place to buy that's reliable? Super noob here so thanks in advance if you take it easy on me.

Well, I guess a mod, can determine if this is a double post, and remove the one in Price Jump, but i tried the B&H link above and got a price of $749.00 on Friday May 8th.

I looked around the net at all of the aforementioned websites, and most prices were about the same, IF they even have any cameras in stock, which most do not.

I then out of the blue decided I would try Samy's Camera, a local retailer that is pretty well known in the Pro Community here in SoCal, and I found the HV30 at $599.95 plus tax and shipping.

I ordered Saturday morning the 9th, My order was confirmed by email instantly, and the shipping confirmation was by telephone this a.m., I'll have my camera by Wed. at the latest. Excellent service!

I'm not knocking pricegrabber, but IMO the #1 best site for customer reviews of retailers remains Resellerratings. They are by far the most proactive about keeping the posted reviews legit.

Even so, it's good to see the NY attorney general finally going after at least a few of the more egregious Brooklyn scam operations.

It saddens me tremendously to hear of online scams. I entered the E-business development world with the express purpose of contributing to the E-Biz revolution. Scams ruin much of the plan. I have my roots in still photo and owe a deep debt to the NY "schlock houses" for enabling me to profit from what were tight margins back in the early 80's.
B&H has earned it's current reputation from years of decent customer service and yes, volume sales on thin margins.
My wish for B&H however is the same as it's been since BHPhotovideo.com first launched - The site desperately needs a usability makeover. I will not state how much B&H could have sold but didn't because of this.
In any case, my account there is still open and active and I recommend that anyone that shops around heavily to stop wasting time and just go B&H!
