25p Capture settings ! ? ! ? !
Well I've been here for a while but a couple of things are still hurting my tiny brain a little bit.
Capture settings for one !
I've got the camera in 25p mode, and recording in HD(v?) onto miniDV tapes.
What settings would I chose in PP CS3 if just capturing via firewire ?
I presume it would be the 1080i resolution but with the interlacing turned off ?
Also one more thing I dont understand !
Sometimes I use my Brevis and then capture with my BMintensity card (HDMI), I only do this as I prefer the quality as I've noticed its different compaired to firewire. However something I have noticed is that I can set PP CS3 to be a 1080p project and capture at that resolution without any problems.
Bit confusing as the Intensity card isn't meant to be able to do that, and I thought our HV20's couldn't really do 1080p ???
Yes, you should capture 1080i or 720p. If your camera is set to 25p mode it means it's 25 frames per second progressive, so you don't need interlancing.
I have not used Intensiti cards, but if you use the tapes to record your footage it will allaways be HDV, not HD. HV20 films in 1080i (HD) but the tapes can't use it. The alternative is to record direct to disk, but it requires a lots of storage.
I still dont understand that it can capture at 1080p though, technically it shouldn't, so I dont understand how it does that?
I've been reading some other threads and it would seem it upscales on the HDMI output, thus giving me the working resolution.
It looks alright to me, so I'll probably roll with it

The camera does not record in PAL 1080p50 but in PAL 1080p25. The HDV standard does not directly cope with 1080p25, but it is possible to store the 1080p25 as 1080i50 on the camera (on tape). When capture the data on the computer it is possible to decode the 1080i50 back to true 1080p25 in the editing program. Pinnacle studio 12 can't do this but the Adobe Premiere can handle this.
