Default Is it even worth trying for an HV20 now?

hey guys. I'm going to be getting either the 20 or the 30 here in the next few weeks. I don't really care whether I get the 20 or the 30, though I'd probably pay a little more for the 30 just to have it. But are the 20's basically all out of stock now in stores?

    Thanks.

I'm facing a similar dilemma. Though I'm leaning towards the hv20 as I can find it for cheaper either used at B&H or open box at best buy. I'm cheap, I can't help it! I'd like to use the savings to get a mic or wide angle lens.

Though best buy is having a 18month no interest deal so maybe I will break down and spring for the hv30.

At my local brick and mortar stores I've only seen demo and open box hv20s.

B&H seems to have the hv20 in stock still.

hmm.. I didn't think about looking into open box/demo cams. I'm going to call around for those before I decide.

Or are open box/ demo cams a bad idea?

You may want to check at your local Circuit City. The CC near me has 4 or 5 HV20's in stock (as of yesterday) for $599.99.

i don't know about the US but here in oz the 30 is just coming out and with duty free its around an extra 100 but the badboy's worth every penny, i purchase in 2 weeks when my dad goers overseas for work, lets hope i don't break this camera like the last two (not canons').

I'd say get the 30 if your in US, you get 30p, novelty stuff froths!

:O Wow.. Where do you live?

I'm in the same boat.. I want an HV20 but don't want to pay the $800-$900 that I see the only places who have it in stock price it at..

Whey are they not restocking this model if it is such a high seller?

    I just scored an HV20. !

I highly suggest for those that want one to call your local Circuit City.. Ask them if they have any in stock and if they don't to search any near by stores. The one closest to me did not and he searched all the one's in the district.. Still no dice..

I then called the closest one in PA (they couldn't search them for some reason). They didn't have any either but were able to search and found one with ONE left.. It was around 1.2 hours away from me but only 20 minutes from my sister.. She just picked it up for me..

    It was $659 - 8% (coupon I bought off eBay for .99) + 6% sales tax = $642.66 out the door..

    Not too bad!

Add to this about $30 for the gas to get the cam and a 3-hour roundrip drive. Or is your sister going to mail the cam to you? This would cost about $30 anyway if you insure it at full price. Not too bad I guess, if for some reason you did not get one for $620 in February and missed $650 B&H sale. Still not the kind of a deal I would hunt for. $280 sale at Sears was a real deal worth hunting.

Add nothing to the price as she's coming here this weekend.. Take another $125 off because I'm selling her my old TRV-22.

You have a link to this "$280 sale" at Sears? I find that hard to believe.

Argh, of course I have to live in Ohio, so I have to pay tax if I order it from meijer. (however, it would be cheaper to order it online pay shipping and tax, than it would be to drive out to the store...the closest one to me is at least 60 miles away!)

Also, The BB by me has their display model HV20 for sale (for only $899!!!!!) WTF?

I got my Circuit City's last "open box" HV20 today for $294. Included all accessories

There is one problem with this camera: the manual focus wheel is messed up. So all focusing must be done with AF or IAF. For me that should be fine, because I plan to mount this camera permanently to a Letus Mini, and do any manual focusing on Nikon lenses.

My deal went like this... The original HV20 "markdown price" was $520. Since this was an open box cam, the price was reduced another 20% or so down to $409. I applied a coupon for $15 off any purchase over a hundred bucks. And then, because the focus wheel was messed up, I negotiated with the manager down another $100 -- for a final price of $294.
