One great thing about having the FD lens mount is that it further opens up your product to people with small budgets but big quality demands:

"Although the Canon FD system enjoyed huge popularity in the 1970s and 1980s, the mount system is now obsolete, and Canon FD cameras and lenses are available for low prices on the second-hand market. This makes the system very attractive to 35mm film photographers who demand the highest optical quality"

    PS,
My beloved 85mm has a 1.2 Opening(!), would be useful in some tests??
Edber, Yes it would speed up the process if you could that, I like the idea of resurrecting old glass, talking to my buddy, he told me that 20-30 year old lenses are just as good if not better than modern ones, If they are in good shape of course. And i'm all about keeping it affordable, thats why i'll use something like a toilet paper holder for a handle! LOL

You like that huh? Well, i'm surprised no one else thought of it, As soon as i saw it at the store all i could see was a handle.

If it will speed up the process, let do it! My lenses are in good shape. I can bring them as soon as tomorrow evening (when traffic clears up) if that's cool with you.

Please email me for further details.

I am going to buy the 35mm adapter here... but I wonder if I should invest in a whole new camera just for the adapter, or try to put the adapter on my HC1 and save $800 by not buying a new camera. If the HV30 is that much better - I would just sell my HC1.
HV30 WAAAAAYYYYYY FREAKIN BETTER. And if you don't get one... we're gonna kick ur ass for using that name LOL

Seriously I was cinematographer on a couple projects for a friend who uses the pro version of the HC1, A1U I think. I really dont care for them.
I have the HF100 which I like A LOT, A LOT and it's about a million times better (slight exageration but you get the point)! I havnt personally shot with the HV30, but judging from the clips I've seen it's slightly better than the HF100 as far as overall image quality so you can't go wrong. And you would avoid a beatdown from this forum for faking the funk with your name

I have one of these, and it's useful for the price. Not the steadiest - but the best one made, because it's about the only one made. I use it almost everyday.

After all the research, I'm just going to get the HV30 and eventually have the whole package installed... adapter and hack now, and rig once Jehu ships them in a few weeks/months. I hate the SONY HC1, except that in 3 years, I haven't found a better handheld camera. I mainly dislike the ergonomics and terrible zoom and bad steadyshot - along with the bottom-loading tape. Which is funny - it always drove me crazy to have to flip the camera to load a tape - and now it seems to make sense if I had a 35mm DOF adapter installed on the HC1 - because now when I flip, the tape loader would be on the right side - UP! And with the HV30 I have to go back to bottom loading! Kinda ironic! But I think I'll ditch the HC1 or use it on the side and get the HV30 - all the reviews and users say it is the best handheld right now - and I really can't beat the deal having JEHU make all this custom equipment for it! Pretty awesome!!!!!!!!

Hey ah......I all of a sudden had to drop 2K on a new Mac because my ex-boss is like "i want my laptop back" just couse i'm not working for him, How dare he?
Any ways I have an HV20, pratically new, I maybe shot 1 tape with it then the HV30 came out and i had to have it. I planned on keeping it just in case i ever bricked a camera while hacking it, i would have that one to offer the customer. But with the unexpected purchase, i think i have to get rid of a few of my toys for now anyways,

    I'll give you a deal $600 hacked

    Default FD Mount

I think the FD mount is a good idea, too. Actually I mis-read the specs and thought the JAG was an FD mount! It made sense to me, since the FD was manual. So I actually started ordering FD lenses in anticipation of getting the DOF adapter!!! Just today I saw it was really a EF mount! So now I will have to buy the Canon FD-EF adapter - about $50 on eBay with shipping. I don't know anything about Nikon lenses yet, but it seems there are some FD-Nikon adapters for about $25 with shipping, not many, but a few, so I'm sure a supply of FD-Nikons can be found somewhere.

WOW!!! I just looked at prices for Canon EF lenses, and they are hundreds of $$! FDs are $10 to $100 usually, only the super-fast go for $200-$400, but most FDs can be had for $10-$50! Some even come with a 30-year-old Canon A-1 camera for free!

    Default Hv20 Used

This might be asking for a lot. But maybe we can help each other out. I have video shoots coming up in the next few days (non-profit, it's for New Orleans Katrina Animal Rescue), and want to try to get the Camera and DOF adapter equipment ASAP. Ordering the new HV30, etc. meant I would probably miss the photoshoot with the new equip. and just have to use my older stuff.

What are the chances of getting:
HV20 with hack, appropriate lens (I foolishly ordered Canon FD lenses, not EF!), DOF adapter (with newest achromat), (and possibly handle rig, etc. - unless this will add too much time) ASAP shipped 2-3 day UPS or USPS Priority? If this is possible, what is the LOWEST price it would be?

FYI - I saw a new HV20 on ebay for $599 or OBO... (link)

(I can do PayPal or overnight a money-order)

(If the price and shipping time-frame is right, I can do this - but otherwise, I will just order the HV30 from Amazon (It's $775.00)... because I would end up selling the HV20 anyway shortly after the non-profit photoshoot to upgrade to the HV30 in the end. Like you and everyone else - I want the HV30 in the end. Basically, if I get the HV20 used, I want to be able to sell the HV20 in a month or two and not lose too much $$.)

(Hey, Jehu - sorry to interrupt this thread on forging a path for the future of 35 mm adapters, but I was wondering if you'd received my HV20 for the flip hack... Sent from NYC Monday, it should reach you Weds or Thurs... Thanks!)

I would waste my money on those adapters. The FD flanges focal distance is shorter than the EOS mount, so those adapters are really going to hurt the image one way or another. If you already won some FD mount lenses I would get an FD mount adapter, sell the lenses and get EOS lenses, or get a Nikon to EOS adapter and get Nikon lenses.

Jehu, is there a way for you to do the flip mod in a way that will leave the unit intact so as to not void the warrantee? I am think that you could remove the hot shoe jack (perhaps push it inside) and run the wires for the flip switches out through the empty port and attach switches to the wires, that would hand free. IF the camera needed service, everything could be put back in order. What do you think?

Well......... yeah its possible, but cables would have to be thin thus making the whole thing fragile and prone to malfunction. In my opinion.

There is a way for me to remove all traces of my hack if you ever need to have your unit serviced. As long as i have stock cameras coming my way of course.

ALSO... Check out the latest video that includes some of my favorite shots i've shot lately. To see the best results though try downloading the file, its big but i think its worth it. Its full res.
