    It comes to everyone.
    Some a little sooner,
    some at the end,
    and some get it
    somewhere in
    the middle.

this looks like the intro into what could be a very compelling documentary about the social decay of the holidays. I loved it!

Apparently, this film depressed a few on another forum.

It's a slightly strange film and people might have to figure out what it means to them. I thought the humor would prevent possible depression. Maybe not.

    Nice.
Not sure what the title is referring to though?
And this is a winter story? It's nearly summer, a bit late!

I must know if other people have this problem... When a page with an embedded quicktime movie tries to load, Firefox crashes. Is this a serious Firefox bug, and if so why is there not much said about it?

This happens to me on both of my computers, which are configured in wildly different arrangements, so I can't see how it would be just me. If I have a direct link to a .mov I can download it and watch it, but a webpage like this is impossible for me to view. I guess I could try IE, but it's honestly worth it for me to have to use it whenever this happens.

Elmer could you link directly to your video?

    Thanks, guys.

OK, I don't really "get it", but some nice shots and that one clown walking down the sidewalk. "No one cares about your picture..."

and whats with the guy dumping the tree in the street? wthell...

    thanks for sharing elmerlang!

    @ Jwymon - Youtube, dude:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7-sCzrD34D0

"Youtube, dude?" - isn't that what Caesar said to Brutus?

    @ whtnova -

What is the film about? The statement/poem in my original post refers not just to the viewers' 'getting it', but to the film's narrative: Eventually everyone gets it that Life is not Magic. Along with happiness there's suffering and unhappiness. But It's still precious (the cam searching for sky in the pool of green Christmas tree blood in the last shot).

Anyone can have their own view of the flick differing with my specific reasons in creating it. For me, I wanted it to be a sad, sweet, tender musing on the vulnerability of Man in a Universe stacked against happiness.

@ Braceface - "This is mostly other peoples work. Unless you cartoon...."

It's called a mashup. Using visuals created by others is the same as using music, I didn't create the music but I manipulated the elements to create my own story.

@ Everybody - Thanks for watching and commenting.

That’s not really a formulation I would use. It’s fine for the dullness of most middle-class life, but I don’t think you’d ask the young girl I saw on tv whose family had just been wiped out in Myanmar that question, or someone who just received news their son was killed in Iraq, or someone raped by gangbangers, or the families of someone hit by drag racers, the victims of torture, or anything of consequence. I would just say Life is difficult, but precious.

    Hey Elmer!

It's been a while since you've posted here- I was worried you stopped working on shorts!

Glad to see I was wrong.

    Thanks for sharing.

So when you talk about the Death Of Magic, you aren't being literal.
The world is a wondrous, magical place. Difficulty in life doesn't diminish the magic of life, it only re-aligns our attention towards the darker side of magic. I've always been at odds with being a human being. We have such a burden, being aware and all.

You're using different definitions. Dif. defs = Dif. myths
    Different myths ~= parallel universes
    Hmm.

I'm using firefox 2.0.0.4 on OSX10.4.11 and Quicktime player 7.3.1 and it works fine with this video.

Default 'Thwarted' - A film by Elmer Lang

Well, there isn't much camcorder action in this flick,
but what there is, is the HV20.
So I figured what the hey...
Thwarted (6:14) - Yes, even Elmer can't get everything he expects.

I've improved my greenscreen skills using Chromakey with FCP but I'm still not 100% happy.
If anyone has any tips, I'ma listenin'.

Hey this was created nicely! The greenscreen does need a little work though, looks like you cut too much off at the edges. Good presentation skills + editing.

Practice practice practice!! (the more H2E productions, the better as far as I'm concerned!)

    Good stuff, Mr Lang!

    Amazing work.

Loved the opening! Especially the timing that you used for "a film by".... delay delay.... show the beast... "Elmer Lang!"
    That was great.

I love the comparison as well. Very interesting.
Your editing skills are excellent. You really bring something different and imaginative to the table.

This is one of my favourites.

    Keep them coming.
