Hey Guys;

Figured it wasn't worth a post in the lounge, as it's a blog post more than anything.

Today I left the house (a rare thing, for this young hermit... if thats the right word) to shoot a live fitness/performance mashup for a group known as "iKi Fit". They mixed live music performances (getting kids from the school they perform at to be apart of the band) with fitness sessions. This group of people mainly focus on developing the fitness and mental health of kids, whilst teaching them life values and martial arts techniques (as a way to keep fit).

So, I packed my GH1 with kit 14-42 lens, my two HV30's (one with a wide angle lens) and my best tripod... and headed to the gig. I took my partner (as in, Girlfriend) with me, and we covered the gig with the three cameras.

I've worked with these guys before, but never these live performances. The long days, the same old stuff... it got tiring and boring. This stuff... well, it's what I usually do... live performances! This was actually one of the funnest shoots I've ever done.

I had my GH1 on a shoulder mount, one HV on a tripod at the back and my girlfriend used the other HV30 with wide angle handheld (yeah, I know... but it's not that bad). Sound was unfortunately recorded using inbuilt mics on my Zoom H1... but it actually sounds alright, considering (better than a "house mix" with buzz all through it).

It was two one hour shows, so it was pretty much the same thing both times around. Roughly six hours worth of footage to compress into a two minute "highlights" reel.

All in all, a very fun day of shooting... considering I'd taken two months off to focus on other things. I'm only halfway through my "time off"... but hey, gotta pay those bills!

I think it's getting around that time I shoot something story based though... I miss shooting short films, but as I have no real good ideas to shoot... I'm lost on that outing for now.

There ya go, just wanted to share that with you. I'll post the finished product in the footage section when it's done :)

Photos from the shoot... https://plus.google.com/u/0/photos/1...31253787821505

The stuff all works and where there is a glitch, I'll tell you up front. I accept PayPal and will include shipping in the continental US. The sale list includes:

Sigma 70-200mm lens for Canon cameras (nearly "L" class but costs less)
Sony DCR-TRV900, a classic prosumer 3-chip camera from a while back
HV20 -- you know it, you love it
Older licenses for Sony Vegas, DVD Architect

Feel free to fire away with questions. I am here to help.
Are you interested in Canon memory card models?

http://www.camcorderinfo.com/content/Canon-VIxia-HF-M31-Camcorder-Review-37761/Motion-amp-Sharpness-Performance.htm

"Video Sharpness (11.66)
The (cheaper) HF M31 measured a horizontal sharpness of 900 lw/ph in our video testing, which is a very strong score. The camcorder managed a more disappointing 600 lw/ph in vertical sharpness, which is a surprise considering last year's HF20 measured at 900 lw/ph vertically (but only 800 lw/ph horizontally). We're not quite sure why this discrepancy occurred, but we assume Canon must have tweaked the processing slightly on its new camcorder."

Canon produces its cheaper camcorders by making sillier them via firmware. :hv20-smilie68::hv20-smilie68::mad::mad:
I've been shooting multicam video for live music for a few years, i use a variety of camera types. Output is destined primarily for web, some go broadcast. I especially like shooting for local bands who have a great sound and a great show put together. Most local acts don't have the backing for full blown HD multicam with multichannel audio, steadicams, etc, but i've managed to find ways to get great audio/video for local acts without the cost.

I use mostly SD cameras, i have three HD cams including one DSLR. One aspect of getting great video has always been matching footage between cameras. While not perfect, i think the videos show how such a wide variety of cameras can be used together to make a quality finished video.

Having a great crew has always made the difference, we're lucky to have two of the best shooters in the area, as well as one of the best audio engineers doing the recording and mixing/mastering for shows shot with multichannel audio.

I'm posting videos in the thread at:

Building a great and professional looking rig for as much as approx. € 50
At first I have to admit that I did collect a lot of great ideas from the Internet for building my own rig.
Especially Metsadah’s photostream on flickr (http://www.flickr.com/photos/gerbertfloor/with/4703669487/) was a big inspiration for me, great rig!! Simple and very effective!.
Basically it’s the same design with some slight improvements of my own.
Due to the fact that there is no drawing or measurements whatsoever to be found anywhere on the Internet I had to do some research.
My rig is specially designed to use with my Canon HV30.
As a professional Cameraman I use this camera in circumstances when I have to travel light! (this baby provides a stunning, most older professional camera’s not even hit the neighborhood, almost broadcast quality image).
Together with this rig my HV30 acts almost as a xxxx thousand worth broadcast cam.
But enough of that get, your stuff and start building!
What stuff do you need?
1.	1 (about 1500 mm standard length) rod, diameter 15 mm
These rod’s (pipes) you can buy in every DIY shop and usually they are used for plumbing etc.
I did go for the galvanized steel ones (they also come in copper)
Unfortunately I could not find aluminum ones but what the heck!
It happens to be that these pipes have just the same diameter as pipes used in professional rod adapters, so Matte boxes as well as f.i. follow focus systems etc. can be attached to them.

2.	About 6 clamps usually used for mounting these pipes against a wall or something, again, they can be found in every DIY shop.
The distance between two pipes, (mounting on a wall ore something) is exactly 60 mm, and therefore also exactly the same distance as professional rod adaptors will provide you with.

3.	A couple of Hex bolts and required nuts (thickness depends of the clamps etc.)
I preferred to use these Hex bolts, not only for giving the rig a bit more professional looks, but also to make the rig easy to adjust and transportable.

4.	A cheap ATB or Mountain bike handlebar as straight as possible.
Bought mine new in a regular bike shop for under € 15.

5.	A pair of bar ends
There are many, many very good looking bar ends for a very reasonable price
Bought mine in the same bike shop for under € 5, but there are various models and prices available.
6.	A aluminum strip, width about 40 mm (standard length about 1m )
This kind off strips are also available in every DIY shop.

7.	Last but not least, buy a very cheap and simple tripod.
They are mostly available for as much as € 11,00, and you only need the head of it, (A simple cheap quick release plate would probably do the job to!).

Building the Rig:
First cut from the rod (pipe) two equal pieces from approx 50 cm each.
To cut them smooth and exact I did use a regular pipe cutter.
Than cut the mountain bike handlebar on a length from approx. 30 cm, you can use the same pipe cutter for this job.
Measure 15 cm from the middle of the handle bar and cut both ends!.
Use the clamps to mount the rods together and secure them with hex bolts (buy them on a desired length and thickness).
Drill two holes thru the mountain bike handle bar and use one clamp (depending of the clamps maybe you have to drill also some corresponding holes thru them) to mount the handlebar underneath the two rods (so the rods will come on top of the handlebar).
Again, I did use hex bolds to secure this construction.
Finish the end of the handle bar with mounting on, the two bar ends.
Than cut the aluminum strip on a desired length (I did use approx. 25 cm) and bend it in a smooth rounded shape that will fit over your shoulder.
Tip: to get a very smooth rounding I did use the whole strip to bend.
Afterwards I did cut the rounding in the desired length).
On one end of the rounded strip, drill two holes exact in the middle of the strip and with a proper distance to use two clamps to mount the strip on the very end of the two rods.

To finish the rig, use a tripod head and, again, two clamps to mount the tripod head on top of the two rods.
By using hex bolts, it will be totally adjustable, back and forward, depending of you are using a 35 mm DOF, follow focus or whatsoever.
When the rig is finished, you can paint it (for instance I did paint mine silk black).
Than I did ad a shoulder pad such as seen on carry belts for heavy bags (like a weekend bag or so) over the bended end strip.
Surely looks nice and it is more comfortable.
Otherwise you can glue some foam underneath the strip, but that’s of course all up to you!.
Maybe you are able to make some great modifications or improvements, so I would appreciate if you keep me informed about that.
