I am trying to play a video file with the above encoders. Do anyone know how to play these files? Their container is in .mov. I tried QT 7 (the latest), no help.

Hmmmm, we will need more information.
Where did you get the file?
Normally, most *.MOV videos can be played with Quicktime, so not sure why this is not working for you. You shouldn't need any other codecs to play it, unless whomever encoded it, did it with something else.
You may also give VLC Media PLayer a try and see if that helps:
VLC Media Player (http://www.videolan.org/)

ProRes is a high quality (lossless) working codec that comes with FinalCutStudio2. you can not use it (ie play footage encoded in it) if you do not have FCS2 installed
P.S. some info http://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio/finalcutpro/?movie=prores422

Thank you IndyFx! That explains why I am not able to find any codec out there. I got this file from one of the people here, I thought, but I was not able to play it.
