For most users that use HDMI to DVI connection, the HV20 will automatically downconvert its output to 480i.

If we use an HDMI switcher before going to the TV (with DVI connection), will the HV20 be fooled into releasing 1080i output?

I don't think so. I have HDMI 3x1 switch from Firefold I bought for my HV20 and even this won't trick the camera for me. So it's 480i with HDMI switch.

Thank you for the clarification. I don't understand why Canon designed it that way.
