Perfect for HV20? - ColorSpace INDI & ICON - direct-to-disk 4:4:4 & 4:2:2 recorders

Wow, looks like ColorSpace is still in business.
Some might remember them touting an HD cam (2k) at NAB 2006 (in development only). They were naturally overshadowed by Red (http://red.com), but it appears they are still moving ahead; now pushing a 4:4:4 and 4:2:2 direct-to-disk recorder. The latter one is supposed to be coming out with HDMI too.....
Hmmmm.....a nice match for a HV20, albeit about 5 times bigger than the cam!!! :hv20-smilie79:
No mention of cost either.....I wonder if anyone here is at NAB and could ask!!
They are getting ZERO traction on any other forums it seems.....which is a REAL shame. Looks like one has to have a 6000 mile range Learjet in order to get recognition these days! (A small humerous dig, not meant to offend, and made in total jest.)

By the way, the picture above shows the 4:4:4 ICON version. For the HV20, the INDI would be more suited:

"The INDI is a 4:2:2 field recorder from Colorspace, Inc. Designed to be the ICON's sibling, this recorder acquires HD-SDI (*HDMI input coming) imagery and records it at a user-selected compression level. So many of the prosumer cameras on the market today have great CCDs inside them, but horribly restrictive HDV compression ruining all of those beautiful images. Fortunately, you're not handcuffed to the 25-megabit tape compression... a few of these cameras (XL-H1, GY-HD250) have HD-SDI outputs. The HD-SDI signal carries over 60 times as much data as gets recorded to HDV tape. The INDI has the same form factor (lighter media packs, though) and touchscreen interface as the ICON, yet a much smaller price tag. Virtually all of the features listed for the ICON above apply to the INDI, except of course DPX uncompressed acquisition has been replaced by user-selectable bitrate compression. Current compression options include H.264, and the possibility of CineForm (delivered via software-update) a few months down the line (if user demand is sufficient).

For those not familiar, Colorspace is focused on building modular products, so that they can evolve over the years without forcing existing customers to replace products they are happy with. One of these modular features is software updates. The ICON and INDI include Compact Flash slots that will allow users to download firmware updates from our web site and upgrade their recorders at the push of a button."

Okay found some more info: looks like the ICON is about $30'000.00 and the INDI will be about $10'000.00 or slightly lower.
Pretty neat considering what else is out there, but still about double of what I'd hoped/expected it would be...

Exactly. I may be naive, but I think that lower cost HDMI->Hard Drive options will be popping up sooner rather than later. I think it won't be long before DIY people are simply building computers with micro-atx (or whatever kind of small mobo) and an HDMI card which will allow a basic stripped down version of this for much much less.
