i found it on newegg for $999 and i was told it was a great camera. I'm gonna be using it for the tuner nightlife and work on a lil documentary. the reviews i read on newegg said its not the best thing to use for low light situations but i wanted a real opinion from you guys. The only light will be from the street lights and the moon. ill also use it during the day but mostly at night.

thanks guys:hv20-smilie77:

For that type of use, it should work great! I don't really understand what people are looking for when they say a camera isn't good in low light. The HV20 is probably one of the best cameras I've personally used when it comes to low light performance, so you should be pretty happy with the results as well. There's nothing better in the price range, that's for sure.

Title amended, quite needlessly. 'An' instead of 'a'! The joys of the English language, eh. Get your indefinite articles correct, sonny, else I'll turn you into an eunuch! :hv20-smilie64:

Low light. this is one of those factors that bugs me. I though my old JVC camera had good low light performance. Then I saw the performance of my MVX40, which I considered pretty darn good. Not as good as a prosumer model, but good none the less.

Last night I saw the performance of my HV20. And that blows away the MVX40.

If you like what you see, then it's good enough.

You use "an" before vowels and words that sound like they have a vowel in front. English is not my first language, but that is one of the first things I learned in school. ^^

Before you buy the HV20 - HDV consumer cameras in general are not a good choice for low light situations. The HV20 is just the king of cameras that are not so good in low light situations.

I didnīt have a(n) (H)DV camera before the HV20 and at first I was pretty disappointed when I tried it in my computer room (which is pretty dark). Why is there noise? People told me it is a great camera in the near dark. Donīt want no noise on my footage!!1 ;)

So from an "outside perspective" Iīd say that the HV20 is okay and most other cameras are just crap in these situations.

Just donīt buy something if you donīt have the money unless itīs an investment that will bring in money, like already having a client that is going to pay 2000$ but you need to buy a camera first. ;)
