Why is this setting supposed to be so good?
If I'm not shooting in 24p does it matter if I'm in 1/48?
If I'm shooting in regular HDV mode will 1/48th still be the best option?
With fast pans, and a lot of action, will 1/48th be blurry?
I'm new to a lot of the terminology, and theory to filming so I'd appreciate a thorough discussion on precisely these questions, even if they seem stupid.

You will have to do a search here in this forum. This info has been discussed many times over and there is a lot of info to soak in. Search for 180 degree shutter.

Okay. But like you said, it's all over the board, in various spread out ways. It's not in a specific thread just focusing on the pros/ cons, of 1/48th shutter. It's usually peppered into other topics very vaguely.

Hey man, Thanks a lot!! You rule. By the way, are you still shooting TV mode?
I started testing cine mode, and I love the soft look, and narrower dof it seems to emulate.

I'm kind of going back and forth between the two modes. I do like the soft film-like look it gives...but my main problem is details. You lose some details in that mode...not necessarily sharpness...but fine details. It does well however with protecting your hilights and in post with color grading. I like color grading (not necessarily saying that I'm good at it...but i'm having fun with it). It's a tossup really....and for me depends on my shooting situation.
This (http://vimeo.com/436147)was shot using a mixture of both modes.
