I'm interested in buying an HV20 from Japan, but I'm not sure what to expect. Is the charger going to work in the US? Do I have to worry about a different IRE than the US NTSC? Also, the only place I've seen mentioned here is pricejapan.com. Any others to consider? I am having a time trying to find competition to them. Other concerns with this?

I'm a complete N00b here, so be gentle. :)

Cheers!

I bought mine from pricejapan, very happy with them, the price changes daily, luckily i bought mine for the cheapest price they ever had, Its higher now.Charger is universal has an american plug.Only difference is the manual is in japanese, so you'll have to print out the english one from the website. Also most of the buttons on the camera are in japanese, so you'll have to remember what they do after looking in the manual.

Warrenty is only 1 year in japan, so if you need it fixed , you'll have to send it back there for repair.

The only thing, is the price is only a little more in the states if you find a good deal, so your not saving much, adn you get the US warrenty, I bought mine from there because im in Europe and saved over 350 euro, so i was happy

Well, I went ahead and ordered on Friday. I was amazed when DHL showed up yesterday evening at about 7pm! A couple of caveats to note: no Component cable. There was a cable that would connect to the component jack on the camera. However, it must be a Japanese version of component connection since it was some sort of a centronics connection. The other caveats were already known to me, but they are worth mentioning here.

Comes with a Japanese manual. Solution: download an English manual. Controls are printed in Japanese. Solution, memorize the controls - which I'd have done anyway. The menu was in Japanese and took me about five minutes to figure out how to switch it to English.

Total price including shipping: $807! I was expecting DHL to ask for money for customs. However, there was no additional charge at all. Sweet. Final cost $807! I'm a happy camper.
