I don't have a lens for sale, but I can recommend the HD-7000.

I also found a 82mm Hood for the lens

Happy shopping

bytehoven, thanks for the info. Where you buy HD-7000? What's the size of the step up ring? Thanks

Hello Taky,

I bought my Raynox 6600 Pro from this company in Germany:

http://cgi.ebay.nl/Raynox-HD-6600-Panasonic-HDC-Canon-HV20-HG10-HV30_W0QQitemZ230232487718QQihZ013QQcategoryZ18612 QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

It is included with a step up ring 43-52.

Quick delivery and good service. I paid 125 euro including shipping.

This lens is the exact same as the one you're looking for. The good people at B&H confirmed it and I bought it when the HD 6600 was out of stock.

does the raynox not come with a 43 thread or a 55 thread? Is there an advantage to getting the 55 thread? or would it not be better to go with the one that fits the hv20 standard?

Taky...

The HD-7000 needs a 43/58 ring. Some places sell the ring & lens together, some don't. I bought from the latter and I had to place a follow up order for the ring. I bought from Adorama for $149, but then had to buy the ring.

Trish... Trish the advantage of the larger lens would be the larger size working on a future camera with a larger front end optic. btw... is your last name Meyer, as in Chris & Trish? I assume not, but just wondering.

Thank you all for helping me out.

bytehoven and trish, I read some Raynox with 43mm thread will delivery pretty bad soft corner images. It won't be like that with 55 thread. Anybody can confirm that?

Thanks

Trish

that would be nice if I had enough patience to write entire manuals. The fantasy. No, no Meyer here. But I do have one of their books for after effects. : )

I was reading up on step up rings since this post and there is sometimes issues with the spacer thickness causing optic problems on some lens. You'd have to almost test it first.

that's bad news if a 43 thread actually has softness at the edges. You'd think it would be made to fit the size perfectly.

I was wondering about getting one 72 wide angle that could be used on both the A1 and the baby. But I just can't see how you wouldnt get some compromising somewhere with a gap in size that large. It would also probably hang off the hv30 like a giant bauble.

Mine works well. Here's two vids I shot with HD7000 Pro and 43-58 step up ring:

Trish... I have know Chris & Trish Meyer via the internet since the 80's, back before I was involved in video, when I owned & operated a music recording studio. We were all pushing the envelope with MIDI and digital audio recording, just like we're now pushing video limits.

It's been exciting to see thing change, albeit a little slow for my liking. :D

Just found out for the same 6600 it has different mounting thread 42mm 49, 52, 55, 58. Is 52mm good enough? Or should I get 55 or 58?

Thanks

bytetoven - nice - a recording studio! I've been around a long time as well - long enough to be working on the original graphics machines that cost $250,000 and basically did what windows paint does now. : )

digvid -the videos look great - can't see anything wierd going on with the 58mm

I'm wondering if anybody has tried a 72mm. That way I could trade the lens between the two cameras.

Taky, u have an a1 - have you thought of seeing if you could go for the larger thread?

I finally bought the 6600 with 52mm and a 43->52mm stepup ring from adorama. Price is reasonable.

Trish, I'm not sure what you meany by "go for the larger thread".

Trish

I meant if you could get a wide angle with a 72mm thread - and get a step up from 43-72 - if that was something that was even doable - then you could use the same wide angle on both the canon a1 and the hv20/30

I already bought a WA Lens adapter for my XH-A1. You should be able to see it in my avatar on the left.

Trish

I figured you already had one anyway. I was thinking more if it was technically feasible to share that wide a difference in lens - should you ever need to

And since I'm contemplating a wide angle myself - I was wondering if it was possible

Does anybody has photo showing the physical difference of the 6600 and 7000 ? Is the 7000 phsyically a lot bigger than 6600?

Thanks

Taky I think this link should answer most of your questiosn, wide angle are further down the page so scroll down!

Its also a good ref page because there are sample videos and warnings of when vignetting etc can be expected.

There are also photos and dimensions of the convertors.

The 7000 is bigger than the 6600.

Thanks for the links! I am hoping to see side by side comparison of the two lens with a side profile. But I take your word 7000 is bigger. Thanks

From the Raynox site (Alsone, thanks for the link):

"With Canon HV20 HDV camcorder in use, it is recommended to mount the RA5243A adapter ring onto HD-6600-52 or DCR-6600PRO wide angle lenses to obtain an optimum image quality, rather than using HD-6600-43 direct on the camera lens."

They even provide the pictures, the 43mm causes very noticeable radial blurring on the edges of the picture.

I'm going to bump this thread just to say thanks. I've heard that the 7000 has full zoom capabilities, which makes it more useful in my eyes than the 6600. That and the fact that neither Raynox lens suffers from the fisheye that the Canon seems to have in the last row of shots... yeah. 7000 is my choice now.

Thanks :)
