I just got a different idea from a still photo enthusiast about helping to create some neat shots.
I own an 35mm imaging adapter so shooting beautifuly composed "shallow depth of field" shots is one of the things I love to do. I was asking her about some ideas to shoot like this because of her experience in still photography and she suggested that the next time "Freezing Rain" is predicted in our area, I should carefully place some artificial type (plastic or silk) plant folliage in areas that would compliment other natural surroundings. For example, since all the trees are bare and grey-ish colored....find some interesting looking but very drab colored artificial plants with maybe some brownish colored berries and place in foreground of these tree branches. After the freezing rain stops and after everything is glazed in beautiful clear ICE, pick an angle that sort of back lights the ice and see what you can capture. Maybe the ice has started to melt a littel and you can video tape a water drop falling from the subject and then thru a ray of sunlight. Rack between the subjects that you have placed yourself and the natural stuff for a neat effect. Covered with this clear ice, everything blends looks natural outside as long as the colors and species of your artificial stuff is selected carefully to blend with the natural stuff outside. She showed me photos where she had done this and it was pretty neat. Ideally, it would look as though a freezing rain has hit in mid to late Fall when the folliage is mostly gone but some stil remains with dull colors. Just an idea.
