I'm probably going to go with Ulead but was wondering which programme,
DVD MovieFactory 6 Plus or VideoStudio11 Plus ,should I be looking at ? Ive seen both recommended.
I'm aiming for a simple "three clicks" and its done........to start with. I'm not all that keen to have a free trial. I had a bad experience of letting one lapse then deciding a few months down the track,to buy the full version. Despite uninstalling and searching the registry I wasn't allowed to reinstall ( I'm sure a forum like this would have sorted it for me:hv20-smilie84: ).
Cheers
Moira

I'm probably going to go with Ulead but was wondering which programme,

I'm not sure I'd go for any of them. Ulead was bought by Corel, so they may have a better future now, but they have abandoned a lot of their users and dropped a significant part of their software portfolio. Products like DVD Workshop 2.0 have not been maintained by Ulead in years.

As I said, this may change under Corel, but I would not trust Ulead to survive long, and therefore I would stay away from their products in general.

Just my opinion. Now, of course, the software isn't expensive, so if they do abandon you, you could always upgrade to something better.

Based on customer service, quality of product and price, I'd go for Vegas Movie Studio Platinum right now, about the same price as Ulead, but in my opinion, a much better editing solution. It may require that you read in the manual once or twice while you get started, but it is probably the most user friendly and most capable low-cost solution.

Please note that there is an expensive Vegas Video solution as well, you are looking for the Movie Studio version, and you should go for the Platinum edition if you have the HV20 since you'd like to edit HDV.

terjeber Ive read many posts on a variety of forums and really feel Vegas is a bit beyond me just now, your comment about reading the manual ( and someone else saying how thick it was or something ) is daunting.I really wanted to go for Vegas because its got such a strong following but I think I'd be better growing into it after Ive mastered the basics.Another one I was looking at was pinnacle but there are too many negative feedbacks to risk it on an older PC

dhnj......thanks for that link, I'd read it a while back but at the time it didn't make sense to me as I was still dithering over vegas, pinnacle, adobe and ulead. Your steps look easy to follow. And the Ulead site has tutorials which might be a help. But now I know who to pester with questions HERE heh heh

I am regreting that I purchased Pinnacle 10 and then 10 Plus to find that it is really unstable. I have a Pent 4 3.2 with 2 Gigs of memory on an ASUS P5P800 MB also running Windows XP SP2 fully updated except for Explorer 7. I am searching for a better solution on the PC.

Don't be so easily duanted :-). The full version of Vegas has far more features and things than the average user would typically want. The Movie Studio version is not at all daunting. You can run the trial version for 30 days for free, download it and see. Run through the tutorial and you will know most of what you need to know.

As a long time Ulead user (since Ulead movie studio 4.5) and Vegas user (both Movie Studio and the full version) I am pretty sure you'll be happier with Vegas than with Ulead.

Just my humble opinion. And again, the Movie Studio version is not at all dauting.

I second that - the Movie Studio version is really nice - rock solid, has everything I need (so far ;-) and is easy to use. I never really read the manual. If you do HDV, you'd need the Platinum version.

And quite frankly, when it comes to Ulead, the fact that they still advertise and sell software that they are no longer updating or supporting (both DVD Workshop and Cool 3D were abandoned by Ulead years ago) is in my opinion deceptive business practices, and I wouldn't do business with a company engaged in such practices.

Alright, you guys have convinced me. I now use Pinnacle 10.7 which is rock solid and I can know my production can continue while I add Movie Studio to my system to see if there are some nice features that I don't have with Pinnacle. And amazingly I have seen were some others are actually having good sucesss with Pinnacle Studio 11. Usually Pinnacle doesn't get a new release working until at least .5. I'm almost convinced by some users here to also upgrade my Pinnacle 10 to 11 but of course keep 10 actively available.

What a wonderful world we live in with an abundant number of RLE choices. We even have multiple platforms and OS's to choose from, not to mention all the different hardware options.

OK......I'm back to dithering, you guys have swayed me again. I'll have another look at vegas and download their free trial. I haven't had my PC upgraded yet so theres no great urgency I suppose. I'm happy recording and playing through the TV ( or translated means I'm still getting to grips with functions on the camera itself, never mind anything else:hv20-smilie84: ).
