Hi Guys!

I am about to purchase the HV20 along with a few accessories, and I have some questions. Just incase it matters, I will be making indie films.

1. I am going to purchase the Azden SGM-1X (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/238826-REG/Azden_SGM1X_SGM_1X_Shotgun_Mic.html) shotgun mic, plugging it into the HV20 via a Stereo Mini - XLR Cable (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/407847-REG/Hosa_XVM349_Stereo_Mini_Angled_Male.html). Will this work OK? Also, how can I mount it to the top of the camera?

2. One of the main selling points of this camera was true 24p. But, I heard that when you capture, you have to do some sort of pulldown to get the 24p. Could someone please explain this and tell me how to do it in Final Cut Studio?

3. What kind of matte box should I get for the HV20? I cannot spend very much, but I need something to make it look a bit more pro until I get my Letus35.

Sorry for all my stupid questions! Thanks!

There's a lot of good information in other threads on these topics, so you may want to search the forum.

On the Azden and that XLR cable, you should be fine. The fact that the cable has a stereo mini plug and allows audio to be recorded to both left/right channels will avoid the problem of only getting sound out of one speaker on your HDTV - but the Azden (like many shotgun mics) is a mono - not stereo mic. Also at two feet, you'll have a lot extra cable dangling around your camera.

You'll need a shock mount that attaches via the camera's hot shoe to mount that mic on the HV20. The one that comes with the SGM-1X may suffice assuming it fits.

I'll let you search the forum for answers to your other questions.

The questions aren't stupid at all, but their answers are already all over this forum.

For the mic question some answers are in the "SOUNDS" section; the 24p is answered in the "HV20 24p workflow" section, and the matte box stuff is discussed in the "Accessories" section.

Quickly, regarding the mic: that comes with a shockmount and shoe mount, so it should fit as it is (at least if it looks anything like this (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/238826-REG/Azden_SGM1X_SGM_1X_Shotgun_Mic.html))

Does this matter? But I want audio coming out of both speakers. So, what should I do?

Thanks guys for the info!

But I want audio coming out of both speakers. So, what should I do?

You take the small plug (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/407847-REG/Hosa_XVM349_Stereo_Mini_Angled_Male.html) of the mic, and put it into the small hole in the HV20 that has the letters M, I, and C above it.

Hey presto, it works!

Why does it matter if it's mono?

It doesn't matter if you use the cable you posted a link for.

I ordered mine 2 weeks ago, so will let you know once it's arrived. I'm sure I've seen someone else on the forum mentioning the $14 steadycam, maybe they can chip in?
