View Full Version : What's the right version of Vegas for me?

I hear a lot of good things about Vegas here, and I'm trying out the middle-of-the-road version (http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/products/product.asp?PID=408&PageID=17) but people don't mention which version they think is so good.

Is the top of the line version the only way to go? I'm a novice to all of this. I'm a technical guy and I've done some video conversion in the past but I just got my hv20 and I'm looking for an editing tool that's simple to use but still gives me a lot of control over output format.

I don't mind spending some money if it's going to be helpful but I'm really just looking to punch-up footage of vacations and going from a $100 to a $500 pricetag would have to really include a lot of features I need.

So does anyone have any advice for me? Thanks.

Why don't you download Sony Vegas 7.0e Trial and see how you get on with it here..

Sony Vegas is incredibly good value for all it does. Some people find it to be not very intuitive, others love it. Have a go and see if its for you. (The link is to the "top of the line version").

Yeah, I've downloaded the platinum version and I like it so far. I'm still getting set up with my 24p workflow but my concern is that I won't be able to find all of the features in 30 days and that I don't even know what features to look for.

I looked at that feature chart and some of the things on that list that are only in the top-of-the-line version look neat, but I don't know enough yet to know if any of them are things that I'll miss, being a novice and all.

I had the platinum version too, then went to Adobe Premiere Elements (got a free copy from Adobe). Both programs are good for the average person wanting to edit their videos and share them online. Honestly though, I would probably go with the full version of either Sony Vegas or Adobe Premiere. In the long run you'll enjoy the fact that there is so much support online, and you'll amaze people with the beautiful videos that you'll be able to produce.
