VCR effect

Is there a way to emulate that effect that happens when you rewind/fast forward/pause a VCR tape? Like how there's some distortion and then some grainy grey lines?

I'm using FCP 5.1 by the way...

I've done this... but here's what I did. I recorded the video to VHS, then re-wound the tape. Hit play and then FF for that "live scrub" effect. Then record from the analog out back in to your camera. Or, shoot the screen. Either way works, pretty quickly.

I seriously did this. But, I don't know if you're looking for a plug-in to make this happen. If so, I can't think of one.

A lot of NLEs have a retime function. BUt gettting all the scan lines etc would take some compositing tricks. F7sound's suggestion to just shoot it off a monitor is a pretty good idea. BUt it depends on how you want to cut it in to yuour video. You'll lose a lot of picture to "overscan" on the monitor you are shooting, so getting it to line up perfectly with non-mutilated footage will be tricky.
