How does the Canon DM-50 do with reducing wind noise? I don't need a high end microphone but I would like to reduce the wind noise in my recordings.

Heh, hopefully RGBell doesn't get confused/scared/sick. Deadcat as in:

...not as in a dead cat, literally (although that may help lowering the noise, too........heh).

As a novice with regards to external microphones, is this something that you would recommend for the DM50? If so, is there a particular size or model etc? Any other tips would also be appreciated.

Thanks.

Sorry, I don't have one, I just know about it. I've always wanted to get one, though, so I probably will sometime in the near future. All I really know is that it was designed to fit over the Rode VideoMic, which is significantly bigger than the DM50. It helps reduce wind noise GREATLY, though, so if you feel as if after you get your mic you're still getting too much wind, I'd probably pick it up (if it ends up being too big for the DM50 maybe you can "make" it smaller somehow).

Thanks for the Deadcat suggestion but I would like to know if anyone has any experience with the DM-50 itself. Is it a significant improvemnt over the built in mic as far as wind noise is concerned?

I'm sure you could either search these forums for the model of your mic and if anyone has any experience on it - or you could use the terms "dm-50 wind noise" or "dead cat dm-50" in google.com

I got wind noise from the DM-50, even with the included wind screen. I purchased the Windcutter (dead cat) and that did the trick. You can get them on ebay for ~$35
