Hi, I'm new here!
I've been looking to buy a new camcorder to replace my old Toshiba VHS SF-100K. I've checked for the HV20, but prices here are just ridiculous.. even with the low currency rate between US and CND $
The lowest I've seen is 1399$ CND at Futureshop and Best Buy. But in the States it's like 900$ or lower..
So is there a place where I can buy the HV20 in Canada (where I could save the custom and Provincial taxe of 8%) or should I buy it from the States (even if I have to pay full taxes)?
Thanks
(sorry for my english)

Hi gui 999! I've been keeping an eye out myself for some deals out here north of the border as well and nothing just yet. If I do in fact find anything, I'll be sure to post it here! ..if anything sometimes you can even save paying for an item from the US including shipping and taxes. Just some food for thought! Mark you that is if you find a great deal on an item!

Find a friend across the border, order & ship to the US, and then go on a mini-vacation to pick it up. Or, throw a party & invite your friend, that's what I did. :D I should have my HV20, tapes, batteries, etc. tomorrow unless Customs Canada thinks otherwise.

I bought mine for much less than $1399 on Sunday in Ottawa at "Audiotronic". The store is now sold out however. Shop around.

I got mine back on March 31st at Vistek: http://www.vistek.ca/details/details.aspx?WebCode=229995 for 1400 (I had it pre-ordered and picked it up the day they got them in) so I knew I'd be paying the absolute full price. I too am surprised how much less they are in the states - that's quite ridiculous. Good luck getting it in.

Cheapest I have seen yet are: :hv20-smilie58:
http://www.cendirect.com/main_EN/tech_specs_Z1000709.html based out of Montreal (no store pickup) but Future Shop will match the price (if Cendirect shows they have stock - which they currently don't)
also
http://www.mostlydigital.ca/detail.php?recordID=H55989 based out of London, ON
Good Luck :hv20-smilie24:

I ship to Canada, but shipping rates from UPS can be killer.

Maybe someone else can chime in, but from what I'm reading in my manual it looks like the warranty is good in both the US and Canada. Can anyone else confirm for sure?

Here's what the Canadian warranty says (pg.107): "with respect to Canon digital video equipment purchased in Canada". Likewise, the US warranty is (pg.106) "with respect to equipment purchased in the United States". To obtain warranty services, you are required to attach a copy of your receipt.
Then again, I've heard of ppl getting their US-originated Canon video equipment serviced in Canada with no questions asked. More like a goodwill gesture, I guess. I just hope I won't have to find that out myself. :D
