Dead pixel on the screen?

i noticed about 10 minutes ago a white spec on the cameras screen, i tried to wipe it off with these lint free wipes i have but it appears to be a dead pixel.

i only see it when i go over black things.

I havent checked to see if its on the CCD either so will have to look on the TV while its playing on there, this is really annoying as i only got the camera yesterday.. complete with the top of the box a bit ripped due to some careless posting by the seems of it

can anything be done about this or do i need to live with it?

The first thing to do, as you have already stated, is to check if the dead pixel is on the CMOS chip by connecting the HV20 to your TV. Chances are it's just a dead pixel on the LCD screen, in which case it is purely cosmetic and will not effect the quality of your video capture.

Whether you decide to live with it or try to get it exchanged depends upon how much it bothers you, and the exchange policy of wherever you purchased it from.

I showed it to my father and he couldnt see it, it is a tiny white spec tbh.. i need to be looking over something completely black and it shows up faintly.

Just tried it on the TV, doesnt seem to be there.. dont know if its worth getting a replacement or even if i can anyway. its not that big of a deal by the looks of it but it is quite annoying, its like buying a LCD monitor and finding one dead pixel there almost smack in the center.

I think I read in the manual somewhere that a percentage of pixel death was acceptable ( to canon of course). Now youve got me peering into mine all the time:hv20-smilie02:

it is a reason why im not fussed on lcd monitors, certain monitor makes find 1-2 dead pixels acceptable. I dont find any acceptable.

on another note, i tried to email the place i got it from but the support email didnt work. Kept getting returned mail with an error, so sent one to their sales address and seeing what will happen now.

I returned mine for exchange. Cannon quality control is less than sony

If your missing a few pixels on a 52 " sony LCD TV, its OK.
But if you missing a few on a 1.5" LCD screen, its a major problem,
go exchange it.

No reply from the place i bought anyway.. not yet.

it is a tiny pixel i will be honest, i need to look very closely and i can see its a tiny square dot.

its not even noticable over normal circumstances, its blacks as ive already said.

Anyway, even though its only 1 pixel thats dead then it shouldnt be there imo.

If it bugs you that much (and it seems like it does), then you really should return it and not take any chances. I personally don't think I would care too much. I seem to get at least one dead pixel in everything I buy (the computer monitor I'm looking at right now, my Nintendo DS, etc.).

I've just learned to cancel them out...after a while, it's like they're not there really. I'm glad there isn't one on my HV20's screen, though, for that is quite a bit more money there! (I can see how you'd be mad). Hopefully that gets sorted out! Good luck!

Unlucky with the DS, i dont have any on mine.. as for my psp however it has 5 maybe 6 dead pixels in total.

I've still not heard off that place i bought the camera from, maybe i wont get a reply.. then im afraid im stuck with it. Unless i contact canon? does the warranty cover dead pixels?

i got too a dead pixel on the LCD Screen... but its normaly for this price segement... a PSP LCD screen has much more than one dead pixel...
It will be wondering me if Canon see this as a garanty case.
