I specially liked the ones referring to magic in movies. I'm really passionate on transmitting emotions and magic through films... in fact, with Coppola's statement it was real hard for me not to remember my left arm (not a fair picture, though... it now looks way cleaner):

I could see myself in this one:

People say I pay too much attention to the look of a movie but for God's sake, I'm not producing a Radio 4 Play for Today, I'm making a movie that people are going to look at.
--Ridley Scott

That's true:

Don't be told something is impossible. There's always a way.
--Robert Rodriguez

My favorite one is most probably this one:

Pick up a camera. Shoot something. No matter how small, no matter how cheesy, no matter whether your friends and your sister star in it. Put your name on it as director. Now you're a director. Everything after that you're just negotiating your budget and your fee.
--James Cameron

That's probably the best explanation of it:

As filmmakers, we can show where a person's mind goes, as opposed to theater, which is more to sit back and watch it.
--Darren Aronofsky

Anyone else have favourite quotes?

I think the one from Billy Wilder caught my eye because of the way it describes the director's relationship with the actors and with everybody involved. Billy Wilder was a comedic genius, and his quote is biting and brilliant like his work. LOL

A director must be a policeman, a midwife, a psychoanalyst, a sycophant and a bastard.
--Billy Wilder

All the quotes are intriguing or revealing though.

Since one of my favorite directors (Alfred Hitchcock) is not represented, here are a few of his gems:

Give them pleasure - the same pleasure they have when they wake up from a nightmare.
--Alfred Hitchcock

I never said all actors are cattle; what I said was all actors should be treated like cattle.
--Alfred Hitchcock

If it's a good movie, the sound could go off and the audience would still have a perfectly clear idea of what was going on.
--Alfred Hitchcock

In feature films the director is God; in documentary films God is the director.
--Alfred Hitchcock
