Although I don't have 35mm adapter yet I thought I'd postthis to help those out who have one and are looking for an affordable monitor flip solution without having to open up their HV20

Interesting. Wonder if you could actually focus with that thing? (Sometimes mirrors present a double image if you look real close.)

Yes but see you can still use the LCD for focusing and the mirror just for basic framing. You wouldn't even have to take it off just tilt the LCD.

i made one of those (steel welded together). pretty cool and easy solution
simply you can not focus exactly. like neocastillo said, use actually LCD to focus.

cool. thanks neocastillo. :hv20-smilie03:

im alway in the search for a cheaper way to do things.

i know you can hack your lcd to disable the lcd flip, but i just dont feel comfortable doing that just yet.

The problem with this solution is that it only inverts the image, it doesn't rotate it 180 degrees, so you would still have the horizontal plane "unflipped".
Correct me if I'm wrong.

If you use the composite out of the HV20, you could attach this 6" LCD monitor which has the ability to flip the image. It's abit more elegant, and will do the job nicely.

For $95 it's a pretty sweet solution.

If you happen to have a Mac laptop, you could also get this program for free:

http://web.mac.com/mark.burton/iWeb/Site/FlipFlop.html

or this one that can handle HDV for $89:

Obviously the laptop display lags significantly since the video is coming in by firewire, but I've tried both programs and for composing and focusing they are very useful.

I didn't recall it having a flip feature until you mentione it.

I have the Lilliput monitor that I use for framing pictures on my Steadicam rig. It's handy because it has a 16:9 ratio and it's a 7" monitor, but I do have to adjust the color each time (because the default is too saturated.)

Here are a couple frame captures, first with the camera upside down (note the writing on the edge of the monitor) but the monitor normal:

Then the camera upside down, and the view flipped (x axis and y axis are controlled seperately):

And a quick picture of the sled on my Steadicam.

And if you're wondering the frame captures came in at 1440 x 1080. They are scrunched if no expanded to 1920x1080.

is there a program like that for windows?

the used to be DV Rack now OnLocation (http://www.adobe.com/products/premiere/onlocation/) does the image rotation, and will also let you record direct to disk on windows..

Hey Duke

How does that lilliput screen work for focusing? I got a 35mm adapter and I need an easy solution. Thanks

P.S. How is it powered? And how is it mounted? Thanks!

It's 12v DC. I have a camera battery pack about 3" high x 2" deep x 4" wide on my Steadicam sled. There's also an AC adaptor.

I don't know how good focusing would be with it in HD. I use it for framing the shot.

It is 16:9, but while the horizontal resolution is decent (some say 900) the verticle is only 240. I think what it does is display the interlaced lines succesively so it's equivelent to 480. I wouldn't call it really HD. That being said, it's easier to see than the tiny LCD screen.
