Does Canon put tapes in these camcorders to test them before they leave the factory? In which case is it ok to use Panasonic Master Quality 83min tapes in them (switching brands)? I have 20 of these expensive tapes and could sell them on Ebay or use them in the camera.

Does it matter?

Shouldn't matter a bit.

Panasonic makes Canon's tapes. Panasonic tapes are very good quality.
I just got my camera and plan on using them exclusively.

In the future I would not tend to use a 83 min tape as the media is thin to accommodate extra tape on the reel. But I would use the ones you have up.

I'm using Panasonic MQ (now AMQ) tapes no problem. However I should note I needed to do a head clean since I was getting dropouts from a brand new camera. Ran a Panasonic dry head cleaning tape for 10 seconds and now the camera works perfectly.
