I just can't register with a forum and not post some sort of self introduction (maybe that's a bad habit), and as I didn't find a special thread for it, I made one up. :hv20-smilie84:

I'm 28, from Germany and have never had a video camera.
For over a month now I thoroughly thought about getting a video camera and had at least 10 models of which I thought "I want that!". At first I just wanted a little, cheap non-HD videocamera, so I wouldn't have to take interesting stuff with my Exilim still camera (which makes terrible videoclips as you may know :hv20-smilie50:).
I went from JVC via Sony to Panasonic and Hitachi. Finally I discovered the HV20 on the Japanese Canon homepage and was in love with the specs and the looks. It is a bit more expensive than what I thought to spend, but then again I realized that if I spend 450$ it isn't that big a step up to 700$, while the leap in picture quality is tremendous.

As I already said, the HV20 will be my first camcorder (didn't buy it yet). I have no experience in filming and editing, so I hope I won't get lost with all the possible settings and possibilities of this camera. I will make sure to read through the forums a lot and get to know the terminology.

A reason for buying a camera is of course my son, who will be born this January already. Only a few days to go. Another reason is that I plan filming a lot of festivals in Japan, that's where I'll be moving in June. (Then it's Goodbye, Germany! :hv20-smilie24: )
So basically I will wait until June to buy the Japanese version of the HV20. It's a lot cheaper than the PAL version. :)

So from now on I'll read into the forums and from time to time ask some questions. Please be patient and gentle with this total newbie.

When I have the camera I'd like to share videos of Japan (I'll live in a Buddhist temple), cats (cat videos in HD! That's what I always wanted!) and stuff.
