Just spotted this new law coming into effect tomorrow in US..

Aye, saw that too.

The new kid on the block will be LiFePO4 (already available) as it's completely safe, albeit at about 35% less energy density.
I bet the FAA won't allow for that distinction though, so even the "safe" Li batts will fall under that law.

Laws suck when they don't include such details as common sense...oh wait, that's EVERY LAW! :)

That's annoying, Canon camcorders tend to be anemic when it comes to batteries. I wonder if this is strictly limited to lithium-based batteries or will this somehow become more encompassing.

... time to build an alkaline battery backup ... hahaha.
