Besides 24p, what are some of the useful advantages FCP has over FCE?

I'm singularly unqualified to say, but I'm pretty sure the list would at least include: ProRes 4:2:2 instead of AIC and Color.

There are multitudes of advantages, especially when you compare FC Studio to FCE. How many of those differences will you notice if you only plan on making basic edits and aren't concerned about color and such? probably not many. There are things lke FCE supports HDV only, while FCP supports a wide range of HD formats, but as an HV20 owner, that obviously isn't a big difference. here, try this article, it's more in depth.

You can't do 24p in FCE? Well damn - when it gets here, it goes back.

Final cut studio is a suite of six applications including:
final cut pro
motion a motion graphics application
color a professional color grading application
soundtrack pro an audio application
compressor final compression to many formats
dvd studio pro. a professional dvd authoring application
The advantages fcp has over fce would be:
an open format time line
support for 24p
batch capture
smooth cam filter from shake. To automatically smooth out shaky footage.
a keyframe editor in the timeline.
Supports many formats.

Yes, HV20 is a true 24p. iMovie doesn't support pure 24fps timeline but yo could still edit straight footage from the HV20 in it. It would appear as 24fps within the 60i format that iMovie edits. Just don't plan to go to film or use it as a pure 24fps source.

The good news is, after 2-3 months of "research" I now have a solid understanding of the differences between Final Cut Express and Final Cut Studio (because apparently, you can't get Final Cut Pro as a standalone app anymore? [someone please correct me on this!]):
After talking with several video producers and editors, reading reviews, comparisons, etc. (btw thanks for that link geoko!), for my needs, the conclusions are always the same: Eventually I will be purchasing Final Cut Studio.
As I envision future projects, the deal breakers for me are written in simple English on the about.com page geoko referred to:
"In Final Cut Express HD you can only keyframe motion effects, not filters. "
"Final Cut Express HD does not support After Effects plug-ins."
and the clincher:
"Final Cut Express HD will not display your timecode, nor allow you to batch capture or export video." (wtf?)
So, the bad news? Who's got Final Cut Studio money?! ($1300?!?!) (not any of the up and coming producers I know). :hv20-smilie02:

FCE allows you to 'print to video', by playing back your final production for output from a vid card into a recorder of some sort. It also allows you to generate final movie files (.mov, .mpg, etc) in a variety of formats and compression schemes.
I'm sure the variety is much smaller than the one in FCP, but it's a variety. :-)
