Hi, all-
For a while, I've been studying, from a distance, the differences between film and video--viscerally or visually, the feel of each, I guess you could say--because I've (and I still wonder how) become involved in a project as a filmmaker on a limited budget. (What's new?)
Given that, and after reading 6,000 (it seems) articles and resources, I got an HV20, which I couldn't be happier with so far.
I'm still extremely new at handling a camera and shot-to-shot editing (FCP), but I decided to head out to try to create some film-like video of a local park. Today, I know probably twice as much as I did when I shot this two weeks ago in terms of technique--I'm now looking at monopods, for example--so the edit, cuts, and camera motions are nonexistant or extremely rough. But for this project, I was more interested in working towards learning how to create beautiful, film-like footage than thinking about my handling and editing skill. I think (hopefully not naively) that I've got one or two shots that feel to me like they could have been shot in a rustic town square in Italy.
Mixed settings for experimentation, but mostly 24p with aperture priority set as low as I could get it, exposure generally lowered. Footage shot from 8pm-9pm East Coast--the sun sets probably around 830. (I wonder if I shouldn't have shot Cinema mode, then tweaked in post to improve dynamic range and other adjustments.) And I think I slipped in some of my night footage--extremely noisy for this camera, indicating to me I was not shooting 24 frames per second.
Enough apologizing! Hope you enjoy ..
