View Full Version : Interesting Problem with Rode Videomic

Just bought a Rode Videomic. When I plug it into the external mic input on the HV20, it silences the internal mic. When I turn the Rode mic on, it works for about half a second ...and then the HV20 defaults back to the internal mic.
Has anyone else experienced this? Any suggestions?

If it's a new version, check out in the battery compatriment of your rode and change the output settings. seems like your HV20 does not like it !

Thanks for the suggestion. Have tried all settings. I know the Videomic has a LINE level out and the HV20 has a MIC level in. Will try to find a pad to bring down to mic level, although others don't seem to have this problem.....

I took the Videomic to a camera store and tried it on another HV20. Same result. The HV20 doesn't like the line level signal. Will have to try another mic or even the one made by Canon.

Maybe you need to turn Mic Attenuation on in the HV20?

Tested mine last night, and no problems. Works perfectly.

I've had my Rode Vid Mic for over a week and haven't even used it yet. Will definitely try it tomorrow. I was thinking about returning it, cuz the windscreen had lines on it, from the box (since it's foam, it like keeps the lines from being pressed by who knows how long.). Hopefully it will be ok.

Those lines will soon disappear, so don't worry about it. I would rather that 'Rode' wasn't stamped on the windshield!

Two words:
Dead cat

One word: Dougal!

I saw a Rode dead cat on Tuesday, and it really did look very dead indeed. I think it is too small to be as fluffy as I expected. In fact, it looked as if it had been run over.

For now, I'll settle for rotating the windshield 90 degrees.

Hence the name "Dead Cat." Haha.

Original problem that started this thread has been solved. I bought another Rode Videomic......and it worked perfectly. The original mic was faulty. Glad to be able to finally record good dialog.
