Hi all.
I'd like to know which are the recommended accesories for hv20. Those essentials like:

- Second battery
- Polarizer filter
- UV filter
- Lens hood
- Other adapters?

If possible post part number and manufacturer. Will a rode videomic or stereovideomic work with this camera? Is some kind of adapter required?

THANKS A LOT!!!

The mics will work as they are.

Really a lot of stuff you ask here has already been answered.

Here's one link where your questions have also been raised:

Right now, it's all scattered around this "Accessories & Equipment" category though...

Exactly, it would be good if we could concentrate on that thread, and post stuff there. It's always a little difficult to contain info in these forums so that it's easily retrievable. Making these threads where info is collected is a great idea, therefore.
That way it's all nice and neat and in one place, which was the intent of that thread anyway, right?

yeah, i read that thread but didn't get much info really, besides a bit of talk about the wide angle lens of cannon. what about lens hoods? what about filters? what brands/models are recommended? what to look for?

I'm no expert compared to most of the people on here but after researching and listening etc, the best brands for filters seem to be Tiffen, Hoya or B&W. I went for B&W (Circular Polariser, Close Up, Haze & ND). You basically get what you pay for and the strong recommendation re filters is that you get quality ones.

With regards to lens hoods, the best thing I've seen and perhaps I've viewed it to much from a cosmetic perspective is the Mattlebox DV. There is a thread elsewhere with pictures of someones set up and it looks good IMHO which has led me to order one. Although this will only fit with the WD-H43 or equivalent.

I want for a Canon back up battery and charger, however, this appears one area that you can get away with cheap equivalents. I probably should have waited and researched before ordering and saved a few £.:hv20-smilie03:

With regards to mics, there are plenty of threads concerning this, however, when all was said and done I went for the Canon DM50, however, I am a novice, so the ones you mentioned may be more suitable for you. Not aware of any adapters but I'm sure they will work, but would advise you check.

Hope this helps a little.

Tomperson,
the mentioned thread and quite a few others does talk a lot about accessories. However with the adjective "recommended" in front it becomes subjective! I mean that would vary from person to person depending on their individual needs and kind of filming they would do.
But under most circumstances you would need
1) extra battery
2) 3 filters (UV, polarizer and ND)
3) a tripod/monopod/steadycam (this is so very important for hv20 being very light; once you start using it you would feel that)
4) Wide-angle lens (preferably WD-H43 or wait for Mal's test)

You might also like to get a mic. But sound is a altogether different subject and I think there is a sub-forum for that. I use a RODE SVM.

That's all I can remember at this point. If I think of something else I would add it later!
Cheers

First time posting here, but have read this forum for the past couple of months. Afraid to post, as posting a previous question or in the wrong place seems to incur a considerable amount of wrath here :hv20-smilie02:. Yes, I have gone to the FAQ, and thouroly read them all. I do my research, and yes I have RTFineM. Having said that, I am a humble student of life and videography, and am always trying to learn more about everything. I have found some of these types of forums, with the right people on them, to be a big help. I hope this will be one of those.
I am buying a HV20/30 in the next couple of weeks (present to myself for my birthday :)), and was looking for some essential accessories (yes, I read all the links to those threads). For my first post, I was wondering how everyone felt about buying accessories, and lens in particular, from non-canon sources. Here is a link to a package I am thinking of getting, and was hoping someone would give me a little advice on this. Thanks in advance (I hope) Cin http://www.buydig.com/shop/product.aspx?sku=CNACKV46
