View Full Version : Forgot to "safely remove hardware" and now it won't connect!

I successfully captured HD video from my HV20 two times, but the second time I disconnected the firewire before shutting off the camera or using the "safely remove hardware" tool.
Now when I connect the camera as usual, I get the connecting sound when any usb or firewire unit is connected, but nothing else happends.
When I try to capture footage using Premiere Pro 2.0 or Avid Xpress I get error messages saying there's no contact with the camera, or that there is a port conflict.

I can't find the camera in the device manager or anywhere else.
Of course I tried to reboot and connect the camera several times, and once it looked like when I first connected the camera, it installed and said it was ready to go, but when I tried to capture it was the same problem again.

The camera is working just fine otherwhise.

Any wierd ideas or suggestions to how I could resolve this problem is very appreciated.

I'm running Windows Vista on a ASUS F3JP with Intel T7200 (Core2Duo 2.0Ghz) and 1gb ram.
Also connected is a 500gb external HDD.

try google.com This is more of a generic problem not closely related to the camera itself. Search for things about not properly disconnecting firewire external devices and the problem that occurs.

Try to hook it up to a different PC or a Mac, if available. At least you'll know if the camera is ok.

I tried hooking it up to my friends computer and opened Premiere and when I tried to open the capture window it froze up.

When I connected it to my own computer again it worked just fine, so somehow, plugging it in to another computer automagically solved whatever the problem was :)
