Does anyone use Adobe Premiere 2.0? All I see are Vegas posts...is that a better program? I don't have either, but was going to get Premiere...
Any comments are appreciated! Thanks!:hv20-smilie77:

It may be a personal choice, mostly. Although I was hoping Vegas would handle the HV20 footage right "out-of-the-box" this does not seem to be the case right now....but I'm sure it would be fixed soon.
Personally, I'd prefer Vegas over Premiere BY A LONG SHOT!!!!!
I was never fond of Premiere though.

Idealy you'd get an NLE that handles the cam your getting well; also, try some of the free trial downloads, and see which one fits you best.

How were you able to capture that beautiful footage you posted?

I've had my troubles w/ Premiere last night (below link shows what happened):

Well I'm thinking of making the jump from Adobe Premiere to Sony Vegas! I've been hearing GREAT things about Vegas, & have been thinking about making the switch for months! The straw that broke the camels back was last night, when I couldn't capture the HD footage from my brand new HV20!

I know there is a NEW version of Vegas coming out, but I want to see the beautiful footage I shot in HD w/ this handy little HV20! I've heard mixed reviews about Vegas 7's treatment of the HD footage from the HV20, over all is it good or bad? What are the plus & minuses?

I've been using Premiere for roughly 12 years, so I'm use to the Adobe Premiere layout, is it comparable to Vegas, or is it a whole NEW layout & way to apply affects/filters & what not?

Also I shoot in SD too, so is it easy/good for upressing footage in Vegas?

These are my main concerns, the learning curb & upressing footage!

Thank you for any info you can provide!

Peace,
Ken

oh yeah, to answer this, I don't think Premiere 2.0 is the best choice for the HV20 (right now). I would wait, the HV20 is still new, so let other people pull their hair out before going with this program!

I would wait for Premiere CS3 to come out, I'm sure a lot of these issues will be resolved!

Here's the info on Premiere CS3:

Good luck!

I just hooked it up via firewire and pressed capture! :)

Works fine, and you can edit it also; the problem is more minute, in the pulldown, and progressive vs. interlaced areas. It's just not quite correct.
But I'm sure Sony will update soon...

By the way, they have free TRIAL VERSION that you should be able to use.

Thanks guys...trying out Premiere for 30 days....then Vegas. I've heard more good posts about Vegas than Premiere, so I'm probably leaning that way. I just always thought that Premiere was the top of the line for PCs...shows what I know! ;)

Keep in mind that Premiere is getting one heck of an update with CS3 soon. It will have a LOT of neat features.

However, I've NOT liked Premiere, but that's manyly historic, as many years ago it was a big DOG; I then switched and never looked back.

I'm using PP2 with my HV20. I can capture HDV with this SW.

I'm not really fond of the PP interface (not very intuitive.... IMHO) so I'd like to hear from others who have jumped ship to Vegas. Any real world comps??

John, when you work in PP2, which preset do you use? When you are done with the editing, which file format you export to? Thanks

I use the Sony HDV 60i preset.

LOL........... last night it took a couple of trys to get the camera 'mounted' so that the capture control worked properly. ??? I found that the camera was recognized if it was plugged into the firewire port while the camera was ON. If the camera was OFF (when connecting to the firewire port) ......... capture didn't work.

I have only used the 'canned' DVD burn engine in PP2. I usually set the bit rate as high as possible. I'm NOT really satisfied with the DVD image quality. ??? The burned DVDs I've made don't look nearly as good as comercial DVDs. I'm referring to previously captured DV material here. Haven't tried buring a DVD from the HV20 material yet.

Hi John,

Finally I received my HV20 today. Plug it to Premiere to capture. The output file has an extension of .mpeg instead of .mt2

Is it correct?

When you finished editing, do you output to another .m2t file using Adobe Media Encoder? Or you output to some other format to burn DVD?

Thanks

Taky
