I got my HV20 today. Interestingly enough when Circuit City went online to verify the price they couldn't get it to accept the coupon code. I knew it worked when I was at home so I asked to try it with my information. We found out that when you put in the stores zip code the promo code wasnt good but when I used my zip code it applied the 10% off. It was interesting. So IF you get to Circuit City and they cant verify it use 53590 for the zip code. I know that one works! Oh by the way, shot my first test footage today and all I can say is WOW! Played it back on a 57" 1080P DLP via HDMI and it was AMAZING! Great buy!

Yes, this beats B&H so far. I just bought one...I think something is brewing.

Even Canon is offering $100 instant from B&H so I presume Canon is offering it to all retailers.

Nice deal.

I enter zipcode 45238 and it says not available in store. It says that for every camcorder I add to cart, even though I went to the physical store and they were on the shelf. I also enter the zipcodes from the other posts and the hv20 is not in stock. I can see the HV20 not being in stock, but all hd camcorders?

I bought two at CC yesterday, and alas, they wouldn't stack the AAA coupon on top of the already sub-$700 price.

Did some A/B very low light tests last night against my Panasonic SD1 and am thrilled.

Just picked up my now. For some reason, it was a basic box; no fancy glossy design box and its states "HV20 A KIT", so I don't know if I got a extra battery that would be awesome. Costco adds extra battery in their packages for their members.

I'll let you know.

How do you do this? I went through ebates, was told to enter the coupon code mentioned earlier in this thread, and only got the same price ($676 or thereabouts) that I got going directly to the CC website and entering the coupon code from there.

that's interesting. i went to best buy, and was told that because it was an online only promotion, that they could not beat the price. they recommenmded that i contact best buy corp., spoke to someone about price guarantee policy, and was also told that they could not help. they said that if you could walk into a cc store and get the 10%, then they would beat it.
did i do something wrong?

Michael Davis,
Be careful.... I believe that Best Buy only price matches certain items for 14 days, and camcorders or one of these. I could be wrong though.

I just took this off of their website :

it's within 30 days of the shipping, scheduled delivery or pickup date (14 days for desktop PCs, notebooks, monitors, printers, camcorders and radar detectors; and 60 days for HDTVs purchased from 6/3/07 through 2/2/08).

the following is what they were referring to with me:

"Internet-only retailers are exempt from our price matching program, as well as Web-exclusive offers."

they consider the 10% offer an internet only offer, which believe it is.
only available if you order online, even though you take from existing store inventory.

I'm driving from the midwest to new york tomorrow...I google mapped it and it only adds an hour to my trip to stop through Wilmington, DE. So, I'm going to order online with the 10% discount and pick it up in-store on my way home and pay no sales tax. boo-YEAH!!! I think th $62 saved is worth the extra hour.

Danger, Will Robinson!

I decided this offer was just too good to pass up, and placed my order for pickup at the nearest CC. I then got a warning saying it was out-of-stock there, and was offered the choice of pickup at some other reasonably-nearby stores. I picked the next-closest, and had the transaction go through smoothly, getting the confirmation e-mail and everything. I printed out the receipt, and was just about out the door to pick it up, when I got a phone call from the CC manager. It turns out they were out-of-stock there, too (even though the online ordering system indicated otherwise); in fact, they were out-of stock in every store in western Washington. They have some in the warehouse in California, but they won't be here until later this week, and even though my purchase already went through, they won't honor the already-agreed-upon price for those units. In other words, I can't get the unit from them for several days, at which point I'll have to pay their usual $899 instead of $676 for the camera!

She did offer one alternative...sort of. She said that she could cancel the transaction, refund my money, and I could go online again and purchase it at the current price to be shipped to my home instead of for store pickup. Good deal, right? Wrong...while she canceled the transaction right away, it will take "5 to 7 business days" before they actually refund the money to my debit card. So, in order to take advantage of this deal, I'd have to pay another $737 (including sales tax) on top of the $737 they've already got from me and are planning to sit on for a week or so. That makes $1474 I'd be out until they deigned to actually get the first transaction's refund back to me...and that's assuming that the refund does get credited to my account in the time-frame they specified. Why do I have my doubts about that? (And here's the kicker -- I just found out that, even if I order the unit to be shipped to my home, while I will, supposedly, get the lower price of $752, the additional 10%-off coupon only applies to in-store pickups, so that part of the savings is gone no matter what...making the deal worse than some of the regular on-line dealer prices once sales tax is factored in.)

So, buyer beware...it doesn't look like all the shady business practices in the camera world are limited to Brooklyn.

Well, the plot thickens...

I checked their site today, and noticed that my order had not been canceled (i.e. it was still listed for pickup at that store). So, I called CC's customer service line, and was told that CC's policy is to honor the price for which it was sold as long as I pick up the order within fourteen days of placing it, so I (theoretically) should be able to still get it for $737 total.

I didn't have time to call the store back, and won't have time tomorrow, but think I'm probably going to have a real interesting conversation with the manager of that branch on Friday...

Give them hell! This is absolutely wrong. They are supposed to HONOR their discounts, and their excuse is feeble. Keep calling up managers until you get your discount. In my experience, lots of CC clerks and managers don't know their stuff. I kid you not: Last week, on Black Friday, I saw a pimple-faced CC salesman trying to convince a customer not to buy a $800 Blu-Ray player with his new Plasma TV, but talked him into buying a simple DVD player, even though that gentleman really, really wanted a Blu-Ray player. Idiotic, I know.

Don't give up until they honor their discount. Good luck. :hv20-smilie77:

My side trip to Delaware ("Home of Tax-Free Shopping" as they boldly mention on their "Welcome To Delaware" sign) on my way back home to Brooklyn went off without a hitch. Got my HV20 with the 10% discount and no sales tax.

On the west coast, they have no sales tax in Oregon as well. Unfortunately, at current gas prices, it would probably cost as much to drive from Seattle to Portland and back as you would save in taxes buying from a dealer down there. At best, you might save twenty or thirty dollars, which is hardly worth a six-hour drive for most people.

Well, it was an interesting call (or series of calls), but that didn't mean a successful conclusion.

I first talked to the Puyallup store. They told me that the order had been canceled, so move along, there's nothing to see here. Since they canceled the order, they can't be required to honor the terms of it.

I then called the customer service line -- repeatedly. I was initially told that the order was still on line, then (after they had put me on hold for a lengthy period of time) that it had been canceled several days ago. I asked for the number for corporate, and was told they weren't allowed to give that out. Instead, I was forwarded to a manager ("Brad") at the customer service site. After explaining the situation, he agreed to pursue the matter, then put me on hold so he could get a case number for me. After a few minutes on hold, they hung up. I called back, and, needless to say, there was no "Brad" to be found at that site.

Finally, I did get to someone at the "escalations" department, who claimed to be at corporate. After a lot of going back and forth, being put on hold, etc., I got the same song-and-dance...that, although, when I first spoke to them, they said the order was still listed as active, sometime, in mid-call, it would miraculously turn out to have already been canceled, and therefore no longer valid! After quite a bit more discussion, the best they could offer me was to allow me to use the 10% coupon (which, in itself, means nothing, since I have the AAA coupon I can use for the same amount)...but at the current "sale" price of $799 instead of the $751 at which I made the purchase. When I pointed out that, with tax, that would work out to my paying more than $50 more than the price at which I had initially purchased it, I was offered the "compensation" of a $25 Circuit City gift card...to be used on "future purchases." Since I found that unacceptable, I was told that my only option would be to "write to the President."

So, for the moment, that's how it stands...no deal, no discount, no HV20. Right now, my inclination is to keep watching the CC price and, when it gets lower than now, use the AAA coupon to get an additional 10% off...and go to Best Buy and get it price-matched there. There's no way in hell I'm going to give my money to Circuit City ever again.

I called around to about 5 different Circuit Citys here in southern Michigan and they all said they do not have the HV20. What a geographical odity!

So, I ordered a HG10 from butterfly photo. Great camera, but video quality is most important to me so maybe I'll sell it on eBay and order an HV20.

Amazon is now offering it for $699 (from 6 ave). I purchased my HV20 one week ago today from CC (before I came across this forum of course) for $799. Two days later, online CC price was reduced to $749 so I was able to obtain a $50 credit under the 30-day price guarantee window.

I did notice that the in-store price tag for the HV20 was $999 (now $949), so for those buying anything from within the store, be prepared by first checking their website and bring in a printout of that price; it seems their policy is to honor the lower price.

Great forum!!!

I've been a lurker here for about six weeks now and I've had more HV20's in shopping carts than I care to think about.

The Amazon price ... plus free one day shipping ... plus price guarantee for 30 days ... was enough to sway me into the fold.

This will give us the chance to have a second video camera on our excursions and push our Panasonic PV-dv953 into a backup role.

I'm retired now and we spend a lot of time in the outdoors.

Last fall we spent 6 weeks camped along the north shore of Lake Superior and got some great video and stills of woodland caribou and moose.
Here's some uneditied footage ......
