Before I bought a HV20, I used to film with a Sony VX2000, a 3CCD SD camera, that was serving all my demands. Time goes by and I felt it was time to think about the next generation of cameras. So the HV20 came into the picture.
Just after I bought my HV20, a couple of months ago now, I received a link to this Forum.
Immediately it struck my mind, that there was a lot of information available here on the most exotic aspects of the HV20. Microphones, wide angle lenses, 35mm adapters, you name it.
Of course I noticed that the HV20 had the option of taking progressive video, but I did not miss it before, nor did I miss owning a 35mm adapter. But when I continued reading the respective information about it on this Forum, I more or less got the conviction, that obviously I was not artistic or intelligent enough to appreciate these things.

Fortunately now, I recently read reactions from someone else about the unattractiveness of 25p. In his opinion in film or video always something moves, be it the camera or the subject. And in 25p when something is moving, you see jittering.
I agree a 100% with him and I decided to file the 25p info next to the fairy-tale about the New Clothes of the Emperor. The shelf is only half filled so far, leaving some room for the next fairy-tale, maybe about the 35mm adapters.

As this is the Tavern, you should not take this posting all to serious, it is just my vision after 2 glasses of Scotch.:hv20-smilie70:

I thought the same thing ast first, but one day I shot some footage on the bay- white boats against a blue sky with white clouds, scenes in the harbour. The footage was beautiful. It was in contrastee sunlight but the footage showed detail in the shadows, fleshtones looked great.

I have shot other things 24p that did not look that great so I would say idt is a nice tool to have but I wouldn't use it for everything.

Everyone on this Forum seems to reach for the 25 button or 24 button and then spend the rest of their lives wondering how to pull it down, edit it, (de)interlace or whatever.
I like my HV20 in 50i mode. My simple mind can understand it and so can my software!

To demonstrate my point!!!!!!

I use HDVsplit for capturing (free download)
I now use AVIsynth for transcoding m2t to avi (also a free download)
I use VirtualDub for pulldown removal (also a free download)
I use Blender 3D for its built-in NLE, node editor, title effects, (also a free download)
For DVD burning, I've been using Roxio's MyDVD basic (came with my Vista, and yes, the software is horribly limited when it comes to menu features, but does a great job burning it to DVD and playback from DVD is excellent)

I use Studio 11+. Its all I need

For narrative "serious" filmmaking, 24p is the Holy Grail. While it's less suited to covering a fast-moving sporting event, it's not uncommon to see mixed frame rates in a single broadcast (for example, a "meet the player" B-roll segment in 24p shown during a break in the action).

Frame rates just provide you with another opportunity to make an artistic choice. Personally, I like having both "looks" available, depending on how I think the story is best told.

No need for pulldown with 25p. It just works.
