I've been spending time driving the children around after school looking for film sets (bad daddy, yes). This week I saw a filming in Brooklyn's Clinton Hill for something called "Violet and Daisies" and something else in Brooklyn Heights on Remsen Street. I forgot the name of that one :(
Anyway, I strolled on set and asked the grips what you have to do to become a PA. They said that it's mostly a "who you know" deal. They each look out for each other in a closed network. PAs really don't get much money, either. Something like $150-$200 a day.
There's a lot of filming going on in those areas. I'll try to keep you guys abreast.
