Hi all,

My client gave me tapes shot on HV20, but they are not sure
what setting they used...24p or normal HDV.

Any advice or ideas to know about setting on tape?

Thanks!!

How about to just capture them with FC.
Inspect frames in the editor. If you see combing artefacts, it's interlaced (FC does not deinterlace the preview window during editing). Otherwise it's progressive.

If you look at the footage (frame by frame) in the NLE, you'll see artifacting caused by the pulldown feature of the 24psf of the HV20.

If you don't see such things, you're footage was not shot with the feature active.

If you do see the interlacing or other artifacts, you'll probably want to remove the pulldown and edit 23.987, but that's up to you. Not required, but you might prefer to do it. How you're mastering will effect your choice.

Anyhow, this might help:
