Despite me liking my hv20, I've had it for around a good 3 or 4 years. So I am finally starting to save up for a new camera for filming snowboard videos, videos, and maybe start a little local company type thing. The camera i'm looking at right now is the hpx170 because it has all the features I need, records nice shots, and overall seems to have good reviews.
So my question is if anybody here has any experience with it or knows anything about it.

Great camera ! Low light is flawless and the recording formats give it a big advantage over a lot on the market.

Since im starting to save for a new camera, should I look for a camera around $2000 so its easier to save up for, or should I wait so I can save up money for hpx 170. The footage seems to be good, and it will be good for my local business im trying to start, but is the hpx170 worth the $4000 or can I get another professional camera cheaper that records in the same quality?

if money is a problem, hmc150 is a good alternative or hvx200a...
but for features, hpx170 has a lot.. especially variable frame rates for those skater vids. 60p @ 24 fps FTW!

The HPX170 is a great camera, but don't forget to factor in recording media. A 16g P2 card is down to about $400 now, which is much better than before. But add that to the $4500 or so cost of the camera and you are now looking at closer to $5000 to get started. Then you will want extra batteries, a protective case, etc.
That being said, the HPX170 is one of my favorite cameras for the price. For cost reasons, I picked up the HMC150 and am very happy with it.
