Hey guys
Just thought Id post my first HV20 film for you to have a look at.
Still getting use to the camera.
Im using 24p cinemode.

Using Cineform aspect HD to remove the pulldown.

Some nice effects, good acting but I thought it could be a little shorter.

heh... nice one... allthough I would skip the parts where Tim speaks to the camera... the timing is just too off on those parts there.

Also work on the camera angles and sound. And I have never been a fan of gain myself... but I guess that it was so dark that it was the only way to go at the time;)

But all in all... It's one of few fictional works where I could see it all through in one sitting... but then again... I'm a big fan of weird films;) Will be looking forward to the next one...

Thanks loads for taking the time to watch it and post your comment on it I really appreciate it.
Yes it was a little dark there but it seemed to have worked.
Having a few problems with my NTG2 at the moment so once that gets sorted I'll be on track again.

The next one will be better planned and have much better angles. I'll be sure to post it up here when Im done.
I think Im in love with my camera I havent told it yet but I think she knows.

Thanks for your comment again :hv20-smilie03:

I really like your film.
I thought it was funny and different.
What happened to the music though.
No soundtrack?

DirectorDarren

Aw spock!
Cool!
I really appreciate your comments they mean a lot.

Yeah I maybe should have added more of a soundtrack.
The music at the middle and end are both done by Phil.

We scripted this an hour before we actually shot.

Next time we'll plan the shots better and rehearse a bit more.

We are planning a fly on the wall documentary about Tim Jones the Devils apostle.

I'll make sure to post it for all you fellow HV20 owners. :hv20-smilie03:

I liked it, seemed a little slow at the beginning and a little rushed at the end but over all I liked it. Biggest issue for me was the sound, not really that there wasn't music but that I had trouble hearing what you were saying due to the accents at some points and due to it being too quite at others.

Thank you so much for your comment.

I completely agree with what you said, recently I attended a scriptwriting masterclass with Martin Duffy and from what I learnt I would have made the end and start much shorter and middle much longer.
This short was actually scripted and rehearsed 1 hour before shooting.
It was done in a rush as a friend of mine was just back from university and leaving the next day so we thought hey lets make a film.
So the scripting rehearsing and shooting of the film was done in around 6 hours. lol

Yes sound was an issue here.
I think I just about got away with it and no more reason being it was a tunnel and the sound travelled to the shot gun mic. Not ideal at all.
I also had some problems with Buzzing that I managed to sort with Audacity.

I now have a beachtek adapter but as of yet have not sorted the buzzing. I have a few suggestions by other members of the site to try.

I'll improve on the sound and story structure with the next production.

Thank you for taking the time to watch my film I really appreciate it.

Cool video! I would recommend www.YouTube.com. Do not use website form to upload your video or your video will be compress to 100MB. Download the Youtube Uploader. This small piece of software lets you upload multiple videos to YouTube at the same time; each video can be up to 10 minutes in length and up to 1GB in size.

Really 1gb?
Thats pretty useful!
Im gonna have a try at that too then =)

How about google video? Anybody try that yet?

how much did the Cineform aspect HD cost?

DirectorDarren
2007 December 12th, 10:20
I think it costs $500
At the time I was weighing up my options as my pc could not handle HD.

1. Build a new PC capable of HD.
2. Buy Aspect HD

I choose to buy aspect HD as it was not only cheaper than building a new pc it also solved the problem of removing 3:2 pulldown with no hassle.
My reasoning was if I build a new pc now its out of date tomorrow.

For anyone with a HV20 I highly recommend Aspect, it removes pulldown, if your pc has a little trouble with HD if it lags at all when you convert to cineform its just like editing SD, also if you use after effects same thing its a lot more managable. When you make changes in the editing process their is no need to render and as I found out last week when you colour correct the effects are instant.

I previously worked with magic bullet with render times of 8 hours or more depending on the length of the footage.

What would you rather have? instant or 8 hours =)

Its a hefty price tag but more than worth it.

I used a rode NTG2. The reason why the audio still picks up from afar is the fact it was filming in a tunnel environment so the sound travels better.

I used Canons WD-H43 Wide angle converter. I hardly ever take it off, infact I never take it off.

Hi!

I shot in HDV 24p mode which is 16:9 ratio
In photoshop I created a template basically black borders above and below with it being transparent in the middle then placed it over the entire timeline.

I think it gives the effect of 2.35:1 (anamorphic) and looks great on widescreen.

You cant see the black borders with Vimeo because it removes them. =)
