Pulldown what? 24p? 23.something?

Ummm, from what I've read here I see that pulldown removal is quite the important issue. But for some weird reason, I have never worried about it and it seems that everything is going fine. I capture my videos in m2t, and then render to mpeg-2 or cineform avis always using 24p settings.

But there are this 23.something options, with 2-3 pulldown removals and such... what are they good for? why use those settings and not just 24p? Is pulldown removal really necessary?
