View Full Version : Mounting a Lens

Hi all,

I am trying to figure out the best way to mount a lens with no threads onto the HV20. It's an old Century Optics anamorph designed for the GL2 and has a twist-lock mount.

I notice that the lens fits very snugly into my 49mm UV filter, so I was thinking of knocking out the glass and gluing the filter to the lens. Then I could use a 43-49mm step-up ring to attach to the HV20.

Either that or just glue a 43-49mm step-up ring directly to the lens.

The possible issue is, the anamorph must be lined up just right to be effective, so it would be nice to preserve the ability to rotate it.

Maybe a polarizer (with or without the glass removed) would take care of that?

Any suggestions on what glue I should use or how to glue it?

Am I overlooking a completely different and better solution?

If the lens isn't too heavy, you could get a step up from 43-49 then a 49mm CFL or Circular Polarizer (anything with the rotating mount). Unscrew the glass from the filter then glue the mount and lens together.

The lens is not very heavy (less than my WD-58).
Thanks for the suggestion.

Any other ideas out there?

I went ahead and carried out my first idea. Epoxy cemented the 49mm UV filter sans glass to the lens. First I lined it up on the camera and marked lens and filter. It worked fine and now I can securely screw the lens on. If I need to, I can loosen it a little bit to rotate it, but so far it looks like it's alligned pretty well.
