Just messing around filming my girlfriend and then used a bunch of colour correction plug ins and techniques. I think this look is quite nice and warm with plenty of contrasting colours too.
Plug ins:
- Trapcode shine
- Magic Bullet Looks
- Lots of DFT 55mm plug ins
- Basic Hue/Saturation
I also used magic bullet steady to make the camera movements less jerky too.
Used my HV30, JAG30st & Raynox Wide Angle 6600 52.
I'm thinking of filming a short soon so I'd appreciate any opinions on this.

To me it looks really heavy-handed and unnatural.

This is a unique style, and to me, not really suitable for a "movie look". This can be used for a specific sequence (dream, under drug influence, etc...) and would work perfectly, but not as a "style" for a movie, it would become aggressive to watch after 5 minutes.
My opinion.
Agreed. Strong looks like this should not be used as a "look" for your entire film.

Firstly, get RID of that blur/diffusion... it's not a pretty look (unless used for dream sequences).

If this is just a test, why not try it again with some different techniques? I'd suggest filming it without the DOF adapter and going way easier on the plug ins. Have you considered adjusting the color and grading it using the native controls in your app?
You might want to try as many different environments as possible to make sure that your desired look and feel would work, after all.
