Hello everyone,
I recorded an hour and half video on 24p, it came out to more than 160Gb, I edited on iMovieHD, everything is peachy, but put on a DVD has been a difficult trial, since I have no experience at all. I managed to do it eventually and I am not sure even what codec it was, but it was through iDVD. The quality is inferior as expected but fine, however any motion shows a 'ghost' of horizontal lines, is it because it is 24p?
In another words my questions are:
-How can I get the best image on a DVD?
-Are the 'horizontal lines ghost trail' on 24p only?

Thank you in advance for taking the time, Titi.:hv20-smilie51:

That's interlacing and most DVDs are interlaced, so it's normal. You have to tell your player to de-interlace when plays back the DVD. Also, try it on the DVD player and a TV and see if you see these lines or not.

BTW, iMovie does not support true 24p, so I assume you did not remove pulldown, as it's the right thing to do when you record in 24p with the HV20.

Ahh, I do have FC5 but have not attempted yet, for it looks scary (actually I did once but could not go far at all) and I hear that it does remove pulldown. Also I do not have a tv or a player, I watched on my MacBook, I will take it to friends house and check it out. It has been rewarding and frustrating to learn all of this, but I am most greatfull and impressed by the support of people like you, thank you. I will post my progress, which may help people that are in my level of experience.
On the subject, if I record in other format than 24p, then what codc should I use for best results when transfering to a DVD? (iMovieHD or FC5):hv20-smilie84::hv20-smilie70:

Try shooting in 60i and see if the interlacing goes away. Otherwise, check around the settings of iDVD and the DVD player to de-interlace.

Thank you Eugenia,
I will play with that and see what happens.
