Hi all,

I'm having trouble capturing from Firewire (4 pins) with an XH A1 I have here. I shot some footage in HDV, tried to capture it with HDVSPlit, but the cam isn't recognized. I thought it might be a problem with HDVSplit, since it's given me this problem with an XL H1 once before. But I tried Premiere CS4, and it says "Camera not connected", and I don't get an image. The weird thing is, the firewire controls DO work. So can rewind, play and FF. Also, when it's connected and turned on to VCR mode, Windows DOES recognize the camera, as always. It's just HDVSplit and Premiere that don't.

I have no idea how this can happen. I've used this camera a million times for shooting and capturing both DV and HDV... As far as I know I didn't change any of the settings.

Is this a known firewire problem? Could it be it's screwed up? Or am I overlooking something obvious...

Thanks in advance!

Usually the XH-A1 is easily recognized by all NLE software since it isn't a new model. CS3/4 have settings that match it. I suspect the issue is something really easy that you've overlooked.

First, check that the time line and output settings are the same. If one is set to DV and the other to HD it will be a problem. Match all the settings to eliminate that as a problem.

Second, check the output settings on the camera. Make sure it isn't outputting only to the display, etc.

Good luck. I've never had any problems capturing from the A1, other than those I stupidly created on my own. LOL
