Always striving for the elusive "filmlook", I think I'm pretty happy with the results..

My first shot with the new 5D Mark II firmware that allows you to shoot in 24p.

The only sounds coming from the DR-100 are the sounds of the turbines as the plane fills the frame..

Anyhow, just a short little clip.. enjoy.. United's Boeing 777 is the largest plane that can land on Maui's short runway.. All international flights will land on Oahu first then transfer to smaller planes : )

PS: I always ADD noise to my video's as I believe it gives it the right amount of texture to subdue any "video-y-ness"

Could you walk me through your noise-ifying process? Is it as simple as an "Add Film Grain" in After Effects? If so, do you have a general go-to amount of noise you like to add overall?

I can't watch the video from here (at the job for the moment) but, on videocopilot.net there's a preset for film grain available : FastFilmGrain.
You just drag the preset on a Solid Grey Layer, the preset key out the grey and you can add blur to it, so it doesn't appear like harsh&dirty noise but more like a real film grain...if i have the time, and people are interested, i can do a quick screenshot from a video when i'm done at 3am. Then i'll post the pics here. Simple and effective.
Even if you're not using AE, in vegas you can probably achieve the same by using a grey picture over your video: adding some noise on the grey layer allows you to have the exclusive control of the layer alone without modifiyng the layer underneath it (what the adjustment layer in AE does). Then once it's done, add a bit of blur and you're done, it's blurrying only the grain contained in the layer, not the video underneath.

Btw, can't wait to see the video, sounds like it's awesome looking!

If it has been shot properlly (lights & color correction) it looks already more professional. By adding a bit of grain in post it can easily mimic the 35mm look.

Nicely done. It was so filmicy I could taste the celluloid.
