Just fyi, as I've seen some posts from some people that say these players can play the HD footage somehow.

It doesn't somehow play HD DVD, it is an HD DVD player. I purchased mine last December for $500 so this is an excellent deal. It's probably on sale because a new model has been released. I have had excellent results with mine. Toshiba sends me updated CD's to install upgrades on this unit. I think I have received 3 disks so for. You can also connect it up to the Internet via an ethernet connection and it will go out and download the latest updates. Keep in mind that this is not a Blu-Ray player. It is an HD DVD player. The latest conjecture I have been reading is that both formats are going to be around for quite awhile and that many studios are producing both formats. They both have distinct advantages. Blu-Ray has greater storage capacity but HD DVD is much easier to program things like special functions & menus.
I will probably try and pick up one of these as a spare to take with me on field trips to bluegrass festivals. Along with my HD projector, I can sample some of the videos that I shot to prospective artists.

I picked up one last morning, it's pretty sweet but it doesn't have a frame by frame in backwards mode. That's sucks since every DVD player has that feature.
Plus for $98 and the five free mail-in-rebates its a FREE player. You got to love that...
I will still buy a blu-ray but for now for that price you couldn't go wrong!!!
Enjoy if you picked one up. I know I will.
Cheers...

How are you getting your HD footage onto DVDs?

forget about the footage. I want to get these HD DVD players. Unfortunately they're not available at that price in Canada :(
