DSLR for both Photography and Videography?

What are your feelings? I just started researching the Canon's 500, 550, 7D etc's video features. How does everyone feel about this? I still think that it's always best to have a DSLR camera just for stills and a separate Camcorder for videos. Would anyone wanna discuss pros and cons?

From what i've read, it should produce the same quality video.

To answer the op's question, The cameras you listed are all much better then the average camcorder, even the nice ones. The 7D, 550D, both are better for video then the HV's, Vixia, Sony AVCHD's and so on. So if your going to buy one, use it for it's fantastic video also.

Video implementation in DSLRs takes nothing away from still photo performance, so having the HD video capability can be used or ignored at will.

For most of us the video capable DSLR does not replace the camcorder but supplements it in that each camera type does certain things the other either does not do or does not do well.

We are approaching a point where DSLRs will generally come with video capability whether we want it or not, just as most point 'n shoot cameras now have a video mode.

Mmm, yeah. Although the whole HDSLR thing sounds good for me as a vacation cam. You can snap some great quality stills and use all your lenses, and also shoot some decent video of your family. IMO it's better than using a family camcorder for video and stills.
